Random Irritations

Travel company On the Beach radio ad tagline/strap line delivered by Paddy McGuiness Stop booking around. Suppose to be cheeky humor...I find it just rather childish and crass.

And yes - it's MY random irritation - so I don't care if nobody else is bothered 😘
Unless he's pronouncing it 'bucking', I'm not sure what the irritation is?

I guess you haven't heard the advert, but if you think about Paddy's accent saying it - and the phrases they use make it obvious that SILH is right and it's meant to be a bit risquƩ.
Ah right I see what you mean, I can imagine Paddy saying it now. I would have thought from reading it, it was supposed to be a play on "looking"

He speaks in his Lancashire accent - so he would say 'f**king' exactly as he'd say 'booking'...and the listener knows that the ad wants us to replace one with the other. Crass and unnecessary.
In a similar vein, there is a small chain of Coffee shops in Trendy East London which I dare not type because it’s vulgar, They are obviously trying to be hip and edgy but it annoys me every time I see it.

It’s called F**KOFFEE (with no stars just the full word) bold as brass blazoned across the shop front.

Wow, I've never seen that before. I would have thought there were laws against having that emblazoned across the front of your shop.

Well given the mod edit of my post it’s clear that use of the word is deemed unacceptable on a public forum. Not bothered about the edit and indeed it rather makes my point.

Irritated to see that Romania has bowed to pressure from Trump and freed the Tate brothers.

They are supposed to return next month to face trial - no chance they will go back.
America is now openly doing what they used to do quietly. Bullying any nation they want to get their way. The only special relationship anyone has with them is do as you're told and we might pick on someone else.

We supply a large company via their purchasing 'agent'. They basically sacked all of their buyers and contracted the work out. They system has been running okay but the person I deal with has recently changed. After delivering in, about 3 days afterwards I get a request for proof of delivery and the invoice. This would be reasonable if it were not for the fact that this information is already with the company, just not this person. This person is too lazy to check the information internally and so sends me a generic email requesting it. It's starting to grate, do your job 🤬

Spent the day moving pre registration vehicles from depots to dealerships ahead of new registrations day on Saturday.
One of the trade plate drivers working with me today was followed in by plod on blue lights and he was told it is illegal to have a car on the road without a proper registration number plate.

Spent 20 minutes arguing that the whole point of the trade plate system was to allow us to move any vehicle (unless not roadworthy ) under our companies insurance.

Showed him the DVLA website and strongly suggested he speak to his traffic department, 5 minutes later
ā€œNo further action to be takenā€

You’d have think he would have asked the question before making a donkey of himself šŸ™„

Sadly, the way traffic departments are these days, they probably wouldn’t have been much use.

Vast majority of traffic cops in my force by the time I retired wouldn’t understand legislation relating to plates, tachographs and the like if their lives depended on it.

A very different end to a lovely evening, sad rather than an irritation.

Out for a meal with friends. Part way through dessert a guy on another table starts to choke. The slap on the back doesn’t work. They shout for help. I go over and try the Heimlich manoeuvre without success. Tip him forward and give him a few hard ā€˜thumps’ to the back. The guy is unconscious at this point. Up comes his dentures and a fair bit of blood.

He slowly starts to come round but he’s not in great shape, there’s an ambulance on the way. Pulse is thready and he’s starting to look very pale, which is hard for a Spaniard, and he slips back into unconsciousness. We keep talking to him, trying to get a response, but I’m struggling to get a pulse - a few widely spaced beats then nothing, and then repeat.

Ambulance arrives, including a doc. A quick check and all hell breaks loose. Oxygen, monitoring, suction and then the defib. Chest compressions then more defib. Still flatlining on the monitor. Wait, a pulse… onto the stretcher and into the ambulance. A good 15 minutes before they move off but, thankfully, with its lights on. It gets 200m down the road and pulls in. Eventually it moves off with the lights off.

I’m knackered, flat. A quick brandy, pay the bill and home - last to leave at 9:45pm.

Sorry, head’s all over this morning….
