Two shocks.
1) No photographic evidence offered
2) A place called The Hand & Flowers has a Maitre D!!![]()
I suspect most of those collisions are caused by drivers who don't understand or ignore the basics of driving. That's a fair point. What about A Roads which are the most dangerous in the country?
I can wash the pots wellIt's a nice place and one of my favourites. I'm just surprised a scouser could afford it though![]()
I actually agree with that.Somone at work was trying to tell me it's too difficult to drive at 20 rather than 30
It's not hard to drive at 20 though, sure it feel very slow but it's no harder to maintain than any other speed.I actually agree with that.I'll feel like I'm driving at walking pace, like as slow as I can go, then glance at the speedometer and it's on 23 or 24. It feels insanely slow. Especially if you've recently come off a motorway, it's like you're not even moving.
And that's the problem...it feels slow. It's not hard to drive at 20 though, sure it feel very slow but it's no harder to maintain than any other speed.
Many cars have speed limiters. It's just perception anyway. Just as easy to creep over 30 as 20.And that's the problem...it feels slow.
So it's harder to stick to 20 without constantly checking your speedo.
Which takes your eyes off the road more frequently, even if only for a second.
And that can be enough in an area that they need you to be more vigilant.
Not saying 20 zones are bad but they're not the whole answer..
Drive 70mph on an empty motorway and you don’t feel you are driving slowly…and it’s dead easy to do so. When the motorway is busy 70mph can feel almost like I’m driving at a snails pace. Perception is all…and it’s not reality. I’m thinking that when I drive a countryside road with no streetlights at night I can drive at 20mph and it doesn’t feel slow. Many cars have speed limiters. No, it's not at all. We're all very used to driving at 30, so that feels normal. Usually when I'm driving around on these roads I notice I'm naturally around 29-30 without thinking about it. But as Imurg said, when you're in a 20 zone you have to constantly check that you're under it, otherwise you'll be doing 25. Granted 25 is still less than 30, so maybe that means they have the desired effect, I don't know. Many cars have speed limiters. It's just perception anyway. Just as easy to creep over 30 as 20.
Same old excuse everyone trots out. See how it works out when you get a speeding ticket for doing 25 in a 20 limit. Wales has a blanket 20 limit which I agree is overkill , but also get used to there being more 20 zones in England. No, it's not at all. We're all very used to driving at 30, so that feels normal. I seriously doubt that. Got any stats to back it up or is it just your gut feeling?Come on mate, don't be so naive. Everything costs serious money nowadays. Around my neck of the woods they've put in loads of solar pannelled live speed signs which are very pricey and serve no purpose.
I'd also argue the huge holes and defects in many roads with 40+ speed limits will cause far more loss of life than the 20mph zones save.
All the newer residential developments and the town centre where I live have been 20mph for years. Long before they did it in Wales.Same old excuse everyone trots out. We just had a letter about turning our estate into a 20 zone. Fine with me.All the newer residential developments and the town centre where I live have been 20mph for years. Long before they did it in Wales.
A generation of drivers in my area have never known any different.
