It was then the Maitre D came over and asked them to check the terms of the voucher they were using , they have two choices to stay and pay for the rest of the food themselves or leave now

How do 20mph roads cost “a fortune”? Couple of signs, a bit of road paint, job done. If they save one life, it’s money well spent.

Come on mate, don't be so naive. Everything costs serious money nowadays. Around my neck of the woods they've put in loads of solar pannelled live speed signs which are very pricey and serve no purpose.

I'd also argue the huge holes and defects in many roads with 40+ speed limits will cause far more loss of life than the 20mph zones save.

As always common sense has been lost. Put in 20mph zones around schools but keep it simple with signs and markings. Then invest in fixing the actual roads where people are having alloys literally shattered by a pot hole.

Remember with all projects and spending they create jobs for the economy. Which boosts growth , and wages get clawed back in the form of taxation both direct and indirectly

When you think about it, there are not so many pedestrians, cyclists and children hanging around on the motorways.

Somone at work was trying to tell me it's too difficult to drive at 20 rather than 30

Any speed limit is a compromise. Lower speeds are safer. So why choose 20? Why not 15, or 10? Where do you draw the line?

I live in a county where all towns have 20 mph speed limits.

It is a great idea.
