Random Irritations

All I wanted was an estimate of the cost to The UK, fully aware of judicial system and other points mentioned, death penalty in California is irrelevant to the question.

Well it’s around £10k to put someone through trial

Then whatever costs they have if they get their own lawyer

Then it’s anywhere form £40k to £60k per year to keep someone in jail

Plus then any property damage

Those signs I am getting old when most of the letters I get through the post relating to tests or vaccines due to my age.
  • Biennual stool sample analysis
  • Covid and Flu vaccines
  • AAA (Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm) check (thankfully clear)
  • Now I have received a letter to say I have an appointment for a Shingles vaccination.
To me, these are things that are given to old people, not me. Then I look in the mirror. Actually looking at the mirror isn't too bad, it's when I look at the old man bringing the bins in and walking the dog on my security camera that I have to look twice to believe that old man is me.

Got my first poo test the week after my birthday. No happy birthday, no congratulations - just a kit and instruction leaflet o_O:poop:

Highlighting why B&Q should never be an option for buying timber...

A friend has asked me to build him a cheap and cheerful carpenter's work bench. Nice and simple with a thick top and some bench dogs and vise. Easy thinks I, I will just use 3x2 CLS to make the top and frame. Calculated that I'd need about 20 lengths at 2.4m.

But, my normal supplier has no untreated 3x2 in and I won't use treated due to health risks. So had a look at B&Q. A pack of 20 will cost you £99.95. But a single length will cost £3.97...

Now I'm not sure if they don't understand basic maths, or if they don't understand the concept of bulk buying pricing. Either way it's annoying that they are probably ripping lots of people off that don't check these things.

Not just B&Q, a lot of supermarket 'deals' on multibuy are more expensive than buying multiple single items. Just another cunning ploy to make us all think we have a bargain.

Just shows how well you're being looked after, myself included. 😊

I completely align myself with the thinking of those countries, that I consider have more advanced human understanding, that have no death penalty.
And I believe those countries that do have the death penalty are barbaric in their behaviour, and need to catch up with the rest of the world.

Two points on this map I'd like to comment on:

1. Apparently Russia has abolished the death penalty in practice. The people who made this map must be smoking something very strange if they believe the Russian state hasn't put people to death recently.

2. Interesting that Botswana has the death penalty. I was always under the impression that it's regarded as one of the most democratic and enlightened countries in Africa.
