Random Irritations

Thing is, the powers that be are on a hiding to nothing with things like this. Give warnings and they are accused of being a nanny state and teaching us to suck eggs. Say nothing and someone gets hurt or killed and they are accused of neglect and being useless.
True, just the world we live in now.

My mute button is worn and shiny.

I always find it strange when I'm at someone's house and they leave the sound on during the adverts. Very disconcerting.
One irritation easily avoided.
Not as disconcerting as the three grandkids "owning" the remote for several hours on the days we have them from school. Then the little darlings go home and later you find they've practically reprogrammed the remote and the TV and you're sat there like an old frat for hours trying to figure out what they did. 🙄

Even up here it’s been many years since we had 80mph winds hit us.

Last time, 15 years ago, it caused widespread destruction.

So yeah, bit of wind…
I haven’t checked to see if the forecast is still the damaging 60% prob position of the low of a few days ago, or whether either of the 20% prob positions are now more likely. One of the two (the northern one) we miss the worst; the other (southern one) it’s less severe iirc.

Wind…hmmm…go out the Hebrides and wonder why many smaller buildings have steel hawsers over their roofs fixed to huge concrete blocks on the ground. Where’d the byre go…it was there last time I looked..Quite.

Was meant to visit parents in Barrhead, west of Glasgow today. Met Office currently predicting wind gusts up to 93mph today. Won’t be going anywhere today.

This is for Brodick on Arran.

When I lived in Okinawa we would get typhoons every year. Strongest wind 175mph while I was there. Rarely lose electricity and not much of any damage at all and the locals just ignore things until the worst of it hits. They are used to it and build everything tough. Trees are used to it....might lose a branch here and there.

Luckily we are on the south section of the wind today....only low to mid 30mph with gusts to 65 or so. Golf courses are open although Ripon only has the front 9 open (better draining) because of so much rain last night. I don't even remember hearing any rain last night.
