Random Irritations

Mixer tap in the kitchen has started dripping.

Did a bit of research and it looked like a straightforward job to replace the cartridges. (Thought I might as well do both taps as if one has gone, the other is bound to follow suit quite soon).

Duly ordered a set and managed to replace the cold one no problem. Moved onto the hot tap, only to find the thread has gone on the screw which attaches through the handle to the cartridge. Phillips screwdriver not catching at all. Tried putting a rubber band on the end of the screwdriver, no luck. Had a google, and saw this Screw Grip stuff which you put in the space on the head of the screw, claims to improve grip by 800%. Arrived this morning, didn't make a blind bit of difference. Total waste of money.

Then tried drilling the screw out, no luck either. Very frustrating. Really don't want to pay a plumber a call out charge for what will no doubt be a two minute job for him.

And the tap is still dripping - sod's law, it was the hot one.

So the head of the screw is knackered or the threads? Or both now you’ve tried to drill it 🤣

Theres a thing called "Screw Grab"
Its an American product thats basically metal filings in a paste. I have used it many times to great success, however if youve been drilling the screw head chances are its completely fubar and wont ever be removable without serious damage being done.
And no, it's not a 2 minute job:)

After my round this morning a fisherman asked me

"where's the new car park for the fishing lake" (old car park is the red dot, he was in the blue dot car park)

"I don't believe they built one , but if they built a new path (purple) for you guys"

Queue a massive rant about not doing what promised .. oh joy we are going to get loads of grumpy fisherman aren't we? (they took back the lease of the fishing lake few months ago and it's now part of the club)

I mean the walk isn't far, obviously doesn't look as close as the old car park and can see why they closed it to stop people accessing the course from another area.. plus the fisherman can go get hot drinks when they want

From the vibe I got tho they could have provided a buggy to transport their gear down there and they still wouldn't be happy.

Further to my laptop woes yesterday - again this morning it's not working. I ring IT to ask what time my new one is arriving, naively expecting it to be today. Ha. They tell me it takes 3 to 4 days. I ask them what I'm supposed to do in the meantime and they couldn't give less of a toss. I've had to send an email round my team (via phone) asking if anyone has a spare to loan me. It's not like I work for a small company, this is honestly pish poor in my opinion. IT outsourced to India, I can barely hear them on the phone and their level of 'support' amounts to roughly the same as me just Googling it.
Sorry for laughing. Just go with the flow and order a new laptop a couple of weeks before the end of the guarantee period. Buy a backup drive from Currys for your own stuff.

The battery runs out within minutes because that's shagged as well. 😂

This is where I fall down, don't have any idea how to remove a hard drive. 😯
Undo the bazillion screws and pull everything apart until you find it. It will be simple enough to remove. They used to be just a couple of screws and out it popped. Not anymore.

Tried that before the drill. Didn’t work.

No need to back up the stuff he has on a hard drive. The cloud does it for free, access it anywhere. No more fear of things failing.
Until "We are are not doing it anymore, you've got 5 minutes to find another supplier. Oh, by the way, to help you, we recompressed all your photos to make the file sizes smaller".

The NHS
So they decide to do a training day. Grand-daughter blue lighted into hospital late afternoon, and theres a 6hr wait as they are short staffed because everyone did training. And thats for the kids, the adults is even longer.
