Graham Linehan. Responsible for some of the best sitcoms we’ve ever seen but he’s a grotesque man.
Why am I not surprised you’re not an advocate of free speech?

Freedom of speech is seldom the issue, it’s what many people do with that freedom that troubles others. Why am I not surprised you’re not an advocate of free speech?![]()
A bit like Mrs SILH drifting into one of Sheffield’s myriad of bus lanes intertwined with the metro tracks…and a few days ago getting a £35 fine notice for her inattention - ah well.Anyway enough of Tim’s obvious hookbait, genuine RI… received a notice of intended prosecution from the Met for driving at 25 mph along the Victoria Embankment… the main artery into central London from the East is a 20 mph zone!![]()
As a certain judge has stated about (and to) a certain indicted individual in the States…(He) has a First Amendment right to free speech, but that right is not absolute.Freedom of speech is seldom the issue, it’s what many people do with that freedom that troubles others.
Free speech does not come free, as the old saying goes.
However, there are extremists on both sides of the divide that will never concede an inch to the other when it comes to certain topics and subject matters.
Whatever happened to balance?
As apparently will be all towns in Wales. Coming our way soon?the main artery into central London from the East is a 20 mph zone!![]()

I’m not ok with any form of extremism. But the “free speech” card gets bandied about a lot. What Graham Linehan said was not illegal and is the popular view of millions of decent people, however he has been “cancelled” by an increasingly militant pro trans agenda…If you are ok with people claiming to be “offended” just to shut down an opposing view then fine, but beware because it’s a slippery slope.
Free speech? Have you seen what’s he done to people? Why am I not surprised you’re not an advocate of free speech?![]()

As I always say, just because it’s not illegal doesn’t make it right, sensible or advisable. I don’t drink bleach for those very reasons.
People on either extreme will never agree with each other. I float quite happily along somewhere in the middle. Balance, I was always taught, it key.
Free speech? Have you seen what’s he done to people?
I wasn't referring to Linehan. Cancelling (such a stupid phrase) someone for having an opposing view is a form of extremism. But that’s the problem, what he said is not extremism.
Out of interest why did you say that? Have you actually read what he has said?

I have read what he said, I don't necessarily subscribe to his view but he's entitled to it. The issue will always come when "free speech" is aired to an audience that invites dissent and resistance. This is one of the prices of free speech, that the right to say what you want comes with the reaction that folk might not like it. They also have the right not to like it.
The views of those on the extreme left and the extreme right will never align and one will always view the other as "somewhat silly", my point is that there seems to be no balance or nuance to many people's thinking these days.
As a freethinking species and society we all reserve the right to think/believe what we want, we just have to accept the there will always be others that disagree and react to it and that our views will come under criticism. When that happens, I prefer not to lower myself to name-calling, pigeon holing or any extreme comparative reasoning, but occasionally I do fall into my own trap, if someone is being enough of a walloper.

Cards? As in paper? How much does a card and the postage cost? What a waste of money.I never give money or vouchers as presents. If I do not know someone well enough to know what they like then we at the card only stage. Not one for giving presents for the sake of it.
Is "gonna" actually a word?So at the point where money actually starts to mean something to them, you stop gifting it?
Boomers gonna boom.
Yes.Is "gonna" actually a word?
What’s he done? Apart from holding entirely orthodox and very widely shared views that there are two sexes and that minors should not be ‘affirmed’ down a path of drugs and surgery?
I imagine you think Mason Greenwood is a victim and that Donald Trump would make America great again. What’s he done? Apart from holding entirely orthodox and very widely shared views that there are two sexes and that minors should not be ‘affirmed’ down a path of drugs and surgery?
