Random Irritations

The way to spot him is from his lengthy and convoluted sentence construction and the occasional misuse of words such as "parameters" or "metrics" when much simpler words such as "limits" or "measurements" would suffice.
Don’t give the game away

35 words. Deliberate, I suspect!!!
Or have you been assimilated?

So not only the price of tyres but the delay in getting them.
Ordered yesterday, Tuesday first availability.

Luckily I have another car but that would/could be problematic for anyone that relies on their car. What is going on with random supply chains like tyres?
Tyres are pretty much all imported. In the past, no big deal. Place an order, stick and address label on, they leave a depot in Poland or Rotterdam and off they go. Two days later they are in a depot and on your car.

Now, anyone importing them, yours will be pretty rare tyres I suspect, will need to order them (they wont hold them because they will pay VAT and Duty immediately and that affects their cash flow), they may group orders together, delaying things, to spread the customs and freight costs which are greater, they take longer to arrive because they are held in customs to clear.

In essence, they take longer because of you know what.

Imo a lot of that is supplier's using it as an excuse.

The grouping them together. I agree. But a container full of tyres costs approx £55 for customs paperwork, and any business with a half savvie finance team shpuld now know you don't need to pay VAT upon import.
Freight has gone through the roof granted.

As for holds at customs, that's actually almost a thing of the past on all container/trailer goods these days.

It depends how many they ship across any any one time. I know I used to order from OPONEO, based in Poland, and they would ship directly to me from Poland. I can't believe that happens now, or if it does it will cost a heck of a lot more.

The goods may not be held specifically at customs, the point of entry, but they will be delayed somewhere in comparison to previous times. Some clearance may be done in advance or during shipping but I know our hauliers do not move the goods until clearance has happened. UK customs deals with the export docs, nothing happens until they give the thumbs up. Then it is up to each country as to when they do the import clearance. I'd also strongly argue it is different for certain countries. Shipping into the likes of Poland, Italy, Germany amongst others that immediately spring to mind. They absolutely do sit waiting for customs there. I see that regularly with our shipments.

Coming into the UK may be smoother, I don't do much of that.

I used to build a lot of speakers, but the main component suppliers are in either France or the Netherlands. There’s now two main issues that mean I build more furniture nowadays; 1) import costs that didn’t exist previously mean it’s too expensive and b) 50% of orders were suffering delays of more than 4 weeks at UK customs meaning customers didn’t want to wait.

So I just decided it wasn’t worth it anymore and now focus on furniture.

The 4 weeks delay should be long past now. Any delays are usually only a matter of a day or two compared to previous times, my previous post was possibly misleading to @DPapas1982 . Deliveries are slower compare to before but they are generally manageable. The extra day or two does explain your tyre delay though, imo. Occasionally things back up and I have had things stuck for a week or 2 but that is rare now.

In the early days of you know what I had shipments stuck for 4-6 weeks but that doesn't happen now.

I don't blame you for the change though, it is a layer of aggravation that is best avoided if you can.

The original point was about imports into the us though Wasn’t it?

in that instance, you can’t book a crossing without your customs paperwork in check. speakin as someone who’s worked in the industry for almost 20 years I can say now that paperwork takes as long now as it did Pre Brexit. It was horrid in 2021. We would tell people to expect a response within 48hrs, let alone paperwork.
Now everything is done easily within 24 hrs on both imports and exports.

All goods imported from Europe dont even stop for customs now unless selected whilst on their ferry crossing, it’s only none ey that are required to stop at a clearance point.

Regarding exports, 90% of clearance agents can now raise the ead’s and t1 themselves, they will need to be collected, but that’s a two process these days, long gone are the days waiting during 2021. In regards to awkward countries, Germany and a lot of eastern blocks can be troublesome when exporting, but many of them were Pre Brexit (Those not in eu).

I wouldn’t for a second say Brexit hasn’t caused an inconvenience, but most prices have sky rocketed worldwide. I’m not sure Brexit really is the reason for US price rises for example.

Back to the OP I commented on. Ino the only additional cost because of Brexit would be a clearance charge. That’s likely £55. Suppliers now hide behind customs cost as an excuse. The missus works for a high end fireplace installation company. They get charged £150 per fire imported for customs clearance, despite Them often coming in a groupage load with maybe a dozen fires on. Absolutely nobody in the industry is charging £1800 for one clearance. Its just profiteering And excuses from suppliers. Much like companies till explain delayed in answering a phone due to Covid.

Cost was the biggest factor. A set of £300 drivers suddenly become £360 plus shipping seemed to increase in cost when the “import fees” limit was reached. That one I blame the supplier for as they control that.

It is very annoying like you say because of telling diff between them, is to do with recycling. However nothing wrong with your system

Since the girls went to semi skimmed like us we don't need to anymore which is sooo much easier
I can't deal with any skimming on milk. It's full fat all the way because it tastes much nicer to me!

Anyone on the red top stuff is just white water. YUK
