I'd go nuts if someone leaned on my car. My car. My paintwork. My pride and joy. Keep your hands to youself - don't lean your bum or any part of you against it thanks.
If they lease them then they are responsible for them and any lease car going back gets checked for any scratches etc. They need to be made good prior to returning or the lease company charge you for the privilege.I'll wager 70% of the newer cars out there are not the driver's property either!!![]()

I think you are having a different conversation here. This isn't a discussion about drivers cutting up cyclists or driving close to cyclists, it's about someone, a cyclist in this instance, respecting someone else's property and not leaning on their car.How much is a human life worth tho? I'm not a cyclist, haven't been for years but my dad used to ride to London every single day from ours .. people have little respect for them
And we have highlighted today people get so much worry about their cars , end of day it's a to b, what it's worth is just what someone's willing to pay.
It isn't a tangent. I've leased for 20 years and seen the collectors / checkers get far more pernickety. Any chance to add a charge, they'll take it. The charges they add are about double what you'd pay if you got them repaired prior to returning. If you are happy to waste money, crack on. I don't like throwing it away, certainly not on wasteful charges.Tangent , people worry far too much about this. Fair wear and tear is a good policy and covers most marks
However I got bird poo on mine and it's taken paint off the roof in two places
I panicked but looking at the terms (including calling them) it's £150 max per panel for exposed metal
So that bird poo paint peel is £150
Considering I thought I had to respray the entire roof for £500 that's decent.
Same with wheels £80 each if kerbed badly
Not even worth bothering repairing them if they are

Just had a bizarre run in with a cyclist when I was out getting lunch. Decided I wanted something from the bakers for lunch, a wee change. So jumped in the car to head to the next town (about 8 miles round trip).
Got to the traffic lights in the village, red light and I'm the only car there, and a cyclist draws up along side me and proceeds to take a wee lean on the top of the A pillar of my car. Just having a wee rest and casually leaning on my car.
So I roll the passenger window down and politely ask him to remove himself from my car and he goes off on one, effing and jeffing that he wasn't causing any damage to the car and that he has a right to pull alongside if space allows (it didn't, it left less than 1m to the kerb).
He was extremely fast off the mark and through the red light when I opened my door to "have a word"...
What the hell is wrong with these people?

Cyclist rides into your car , causes £2k damage, your insurance covers it but it goes down as at fault claim as he has no insurance as they don'tI don’t lease my car and I don’t want some clown damaging it.
It may be just metal but I was always taught not to touch things that don’t belong to me.
Would a cyclist be happy to pay for any damage they caused if they leaned on a car and scratched it or dented it? A scratch on some cars could require a very expensive re-spray as it can’t simply be touched up.
He isn’t talking about a crash. He’s talking about someone leaning on it!Cyclist rides into your car , causes £2k damage, your insurance covers it but it goes down as at fault claim as he has no insurance as they don't
What's more important bit of damage or the fact that the person riding around with polystyrene on his head could have brain damage?
Again you’ve strayed into a different hypothetical situation to the one that started the discussion.Cyclist rides into your car , causes £2k damage, your insurance covers it but it goes down as at fault claim as he has no insurance as they don't

Say a cyclist leans on your car. Then slips and puts a nice deep scratch and dent on your door. Why should I be out of pocket by claiming on my insurance for someone else’s negligence?
The same applies to a cyclist riding into my car. If it is their fault, I would expect them to pay for the damage. Obviously I don’t want anyone injured, that should go without saying.
What I will say is some (not all) cyclists need to learn to ride more defensively. As you say, they have almost no protection, yet I see them everyday put themselves into dangerous situations that could easily be avoided. It’s how I ride, even though I might have right of way. I’d rather not die or be injured just to prove the point. And I drive in very much the same way.
Having had a cyclist try to squeeze up the side of my car and their pedal leave a nice 4ft long scratch and slight dent that cost a grand to fix when he just rode off with no liability, let me tell you - it's not fun.Cyclist rides into your car , causes £2k damage, your insurance covers it but it goes down as at fault claim as he has no insurance as they don't

Because it’s not yours to touchOK! why?

Good for you if you can afford it, you must be loaded. I certainly wouldn't have been involving my insurer as that would penalise me year after year.
Also, great if you just see your car as a lump of metal. Others don't and actually have some pride in their cars. I know I do, I worked incredibly hard to afford to buy them.
A first world problem is a problem none the less and problems should try to be avoided where it can be. And this is a scenario where it can be. The "it's a first world problem" card is just lazy thinking. All well and good, I just try and remember a car is replaceable a human isn't. So long as nobody is hurt that's all that actually matters in life
It's annoying yes and rightly so. But deep down its a first world problem
