Random Irritations

Someone made a mistake. An error.
Very likely a career stopper.

I worked in a small prison of 300 to 350 inmates at any given time.
There would often be a handful that were due for deportation at end of sentence. Larger prisons might have more for deportation.
It was the duty of the prison to give regular notifications as to when and how many were due for transfer to deportation centres.
This transport to deportation centres is not the prison service's responsibility.
Over the years I was working, there were several reports from other prisons of such prisoners being released onto the streets as there were no staff or vehicles available due to cuts and underfunding, even though regular notifications were given in the days before.
The prison could no longer hold them as they had completed their sentence and unlawful imprisonment is a crime. The police would not arrest them as they were no longer wanted for crimes.
This was clearly a repeated failure of government funding and organisation.

Yesterday someone made an error. A very bad one. No government error, I believe.

How dare you suggest that this is not some conspiracy that goes right to the top of the black, barely beating, heart of the chain of command and just a serious mistake at a local level… 🫢😉

This is not really a random irritation but something I get at this time of year and have had it most of my life

Clocks going back tonight

Lights on an hour earlier
Heating on a hour earlier
One more hour wasted in bed
One less hour of golf light
A month or so for my body clock to adjust.
Falling asleep in the armchair unable to stay awake at a reasonable time of the evening

and so on

But lighter in the morning as the kids are going to school 👍

Police offers are definitely getting younger. We spotted someone sprinting across the grass at the front of our house on our camera at about 3:15 this morning. After walking the dog, we came home to find a police car in our street. The confirmed there has been an incident so we offered our camera footage. The two police officers were younger than our kids!
I suddenly feel very old.

Just read a piece on sky news it states.

According to government statistics published in July, 262 prisoners were released in error in the 12 months to March 2025 - a 128% increase from 115 the previous year.

Now having read the article it suggests a few reasons why some prisoners were wrongly released, and some were due to government policy amongst others. But the worrying thing about the read was, some of the prisoners wrongly released went onto commit horrendous crimes. 🙁

Blimey it’s still light at 3:30 here
Same here at the moment but later on it in the year it will be dark by 4.

One of my other criticisms is how early in the year the change comes and how late it finishes.

In mid winter the older kids travel to school by coach which they have to catch around 7.30 and get back about 5 , so they go to school in the dark and get home in the dark so it makes no real difference to them.

The racism app that Twitter has now become, used to have some great stuff on there, plenty of football chat, viral videos etc. Just an absolute bag of knackers now.

There’s two tabs at the top of your feed. One for “following,” and one “for you.” The following one only gives you sources you want, but the other is horrendous. I honestly can’t believe how horrific some of the tweets are…

I get lot of info on the Post Office scandal from Twitter, usually first hand from many of the SubPostmasters and the official Inquiry. I also follow several cancer (mutual) support groups.

I never go to the for you tab, full of pond life. I'm really careful with the people I follow now, usually a look at their timeline shows if it's something I want on my feed or not, few get through sometimes.
