Random Irritations

Yep...my wife's Gall Bladder issues were dismissed initially as simple indigestion.

If the doctors/nurses had half a brain between them we wouldn't have had to spend five grand on hospital treatment in Crete and cut short our holiday a couple of months later.
My wife suffered for quite a long time, on and off.
The sepsis shredded her gall bladder, and meant she needed two ops to have it removed. The first op they nearly lost her twice.
She (and I) is very lucky .
Glad your wife is ok too.

Holy jumping tables Batman!

Sat on the terrace, and the earth moved for… wow! And an after shock too.

Good thing Mrs H is asleep. Edit; it woke her up! Apparently, we’re moving…

Edit:edit, 5.0 magnitude. Epicentre about 80km south of us.

My SiL and her hubby lived in Zujar for a few years....had a quake at 2 in the morning and the house was up for sale the next day....
They were, literally, quite shaken..

And lots of after shocks, most around the 2.0 to 2.4 range - 7 in total.

The Ipswich Northern Bypass

or rather the lack of one.

For 25 years I've lived in Ipswich and for that entire time the subject of a Northern Bypass has been constantly discussed. The moment there is any issue, accident, weather, roadworks on or around the A14 and the Orwell Bridge, which is the only viable connection that the Felixstowe container port has with the rest of the UK, the entire area grinds to a halt, as traffic seeks an alternative route through and around the outskirts of the town. It is utter bedlam. Businesses lose millions as the town center suffocates like a baby deer in the grip of a python.

The lily livered local politicians (of whatever persuasion) sit on their collective fat arses twiddling their thumbs, wringing their hands and avoiding the all too necessary discussions over bulldozering a few fields to create what is a necessary artery to keep the town alive...but are happy to approve vast new hosing estates all around Ipswich, Martlesham and Felixstowe, which will only add further chaos to a road infrastructure which has been long unfit for purpose.

AAArgh!!!

The 2 guys who cut down the Sycamore Gap tree have been given sentences of 4 years and 3 months. However, the judge has said they will be released no later than 40% through their sentence which is about 2 years (couldn't be bothered to do the maths). Why didn't she just give them 2 years ? Is it a way the powers that be can say " we are tough on crime, we jailed them for over 4 years" when the truth is greatly different?

Still think it's a bit excessive, there seems to be huge problems with sentencing in this country. They never hurt anyone or stole anything. Bigger sentences for hurting a tree than a human?

Agree it is a bit excessive but surely they should expect to serve the whole sentence whatever it is, any 'discount' for good behaviour should be earned.

That’s a significant sentence for cutting down a tree ?

Seems the power of reaction by public has sorted that one

It was poor to see but 4 years ?!!

And suspect being released early will be based on behaviour

If she gave them two they would be out within the year

I absolutely get what you’re saying, but the argument will be that they are still serving a sentence of 4 years and 3 months, albeit over half of it is on licence.

What the public don’t see is the number of prisoners subject of a recall to prison during the terms of their sentences because they have breached conditions which, in many cases, are extremely prescriptive. If the conditions include curfews, which a lot do, released prisoners can often be under effective house arrest for as much as twelve hours overnight, every night.

Sadly, the simple fact is there is not enough cell space for those convicted to serve a full term in prison. I wish that was different, but it’s not, and it’s why the overwhelming majority serve a good portion of their sentences in the community.
