The BBC should be ashamed.

Rothko: Child damages painting worth up to €50m in Netherlands
It is not yet clear who will be held responsible for the cost of repairing Rothko's Grey, Orange on Maroon, No. 8.bbc.com
Good grief. €50m? I mean, how much do a few Dulux matchpots cost?
Well that was a surreal 18 hours without electricity, almost post-apocalyptic. Being without electricity for a few hours happens every few months anyway but 18 hours...
Starting just afternoon yesterday it just felt like another isolated loss of service. But when bars, restaurants and shops started closing their doors it was beginning to look serious. No phone or Internet via the phone.
Our problem... virtually zero cash in the house. ATM'S not working, and shops not taking cards. Bread, ham and pate was all we had in - not filled the cupboards since moving in.
Electricity came back on just before 7am but no broadband nor phone.
Verily have we lunched today.

In my experience, some more dimly than others. Can't beat a Brit abroad and its small wonder we are viewed so dimly by our continental partners in terms of our behaviour in other countries.
If this is your forever place maybe look into a home battery with island capabilities and a couple panels. 18 hours is a stretch for sure but yesterday for example the solar would have kept that battery full until evening and then it would have got you through
I think Hobbit's inability to buy food was more pressing than having power and internet. We have some customers based in Madrid and a number of them are still down but the ones in Valencia are up and managed to stay up using starlink and Sat broadband
Might be worth having a look at Starlink

One wonders how we'd survive if something like this went on for days or weeks. I suspect societal collapse could happen pretty quickly once desperate people begin raiding shops for essentials. The most important thing to acquire might be a shotgun.
