Random Irritations

I really don’t know, but houses next to golf courses are not uncommon.

Personally, I’d love to live next to a nice course. But I’d be aware of pitfalls like this, especially if I was already a member, and would perhaps weigh up my options before signing contracts.

Yeah there's plenty (expensive) villas/apartments etc on the courses here, but none would be built behind a green like this is described

It’s a 1930’s house next to a course which has been there about 40 years longer. I doubt planning considerations then were the same as now.

The course boundary at the root of the issue is about thirty yards to the right of the 12th green, with the fella’s back garden beyond the hedge/tree line. It’s a relatively short hole - in the region of 150 yards from the back tee.

The club have tried temporary tees in various positions to try and alleviate the problem, to no avail. As I say, netting has also been discussed, but the homeowner has an issue with it.

There is scope to build a new par 3 elsewhere on the plot, but it seems a crying shame to have to re-route a course which is nearly 140 years old because of a situation which, itself, must have been evident for nearly 100.

If the club put the net up on their land, is there ultimately anything the person can do about it? You don't own a view so that holds no water. The club solves the problem. Way cheaper and less hassle than moving a hole.

@Beezerk how high was the net you lasered at Hexham? That should do the trick 😄 (it was bloomin massive for those who have never been there)

A question as I have no idea about these things but would the club need to apply for some form of planning permission to erect the net. What odds on this idiot putting a formal complaint against permission in

Planning permission is needed for a net (but how rigorous the local planners are on enforcing this is anybody's guess). And yes, he can object to it. But whether that is enough to sway the planning officer/planning committee is another matter.

We're in process of moving our first green due to balls going into someone's garden - originally caused a fair bit a coniptions with the membership - but in the end they accepted that we could actually make a better, more interesting, hole

I'm sure he would object, but on what grounds? He is complaining about a problem, the club have provided a solution. As mentioned, you don't own a view, it would not affect his light. It would be an interesting one to speak to the planners about

Not sure what the cost of planning and erection would be but on the premise they got permission and at a decent price, it would be interesting to see where that left him to go with any claim. Surely a judge would take into account the remedial work done (and the cost incurred) and the fact he doesn't own the view is would seem a perfect fait accompli

that Corsa was not great but you are comparing an older smaller cheaper car to a newer larger more expensive one. But the quality on the new 3008 i would say is better than most and actually surprisingly good - albeit i would have still rathered the Kia Sportage or Hyundai Tucson but the deals were less good and the wife loved the 3008 - and a happy wife is more important than my view!!
I very much like my 2008 - quality seems to be good & I love the front end on the new Peugeots

I'm not a religious person, but always accept how those who have faith live their lives.

But this post by you is pretty terrible for a person who spends a lot of time spouting about their faith in this forum.

I had you on ignore anyway, but read the recent posts because it was a significant thing to read about.

You should be ashamed about that post. Even if you made it in some kind of ironic way.
Oh, come on, he was merely expressing a prize example of Sods Law.
The clue was in saying how long they have been intending to go, and then when they do “bite the bullet”…….

No way was any disrespect intended to anyone.

And H is someone with whom I have a fundamental disagreement, but he isn’t a disrespectful person.

I would suggest the offer of protective netting being up is much better than a housing estate he might get otherwise:)

We had issues with a club member who bought a house next to one of the holes... the club put up netting, planted new trees, moved a bunker to change the line of play.... all reasonable steps and it seems to have blown over at last.

What I don't understand is how planning permission for a house build 100 years after the golf course, doesn't come with a caveat about "you know the risks of that golf course don't you?" :-)

Actually, I do know. Tax paying , law abiding folk get the short end of it in the event of a dispute.

Having a power cut at home just now, means the fans and aircon are off and despite not being summer anymore the indoor temp is well into the 30's

Are you going to be that person? The one who gets the church bells turned off despite them ringing for the past 400 yrs :ROFLMAO: . In your case, it's the fishing fleet. Sorry lads, you can't go out until 9.00am

Live and let live. I'll suggest to the fisherman's Union that they use oars.

5pm they chugged back in.

I totally agree. But he must have known what the likelihood was given he was a member long before he bought the house. Odds are there are a couple of his own golf balls nestling in his undergrowth!

I’m reminded of a press article a few years ago about a couple who bought a house bang slap next to the turning point used by aircraft at the end of a runway of a large UK airport, and then complained about the noise.

Just plain odd.

Very similar to the very famous Miller v Jackson legal case in 1977. That was over cricket balls though.

What is wrong with people these days .. now hands up I was also in wrong here I assumed this guy was fly tipping outside my house.. heard some mucking about outside. Got up camera , load of stuff on the shared drive entrance and a guy walking away so shouted at him to move his stuff or Ill call the police. (Like I said assumed he was fly tipping. It's bin day tomorrow and sorry who dumps stuff at 2230)

He said he will he moving in across road few doors down..

True enough he moved it into some house. Shouted back to me "you weren't very kind" nope I wasn't but sorry you have a driveway at that house. Why on earth would you dump a load of stuff outside my house making a racket at 2230 at night .. that's unreasonable hours to do so.

If he wants to discuss it in the morning feel free my answer will still be the same. You got your own driveway .. don't be making unwanted noise at unreasonable hours
