I was away at a Sales Conference last week and the missus came with me. Got home at 8pm last Saturday and the boiler wasn't working and the house was down to 6°C. 
It was playing up before we went but I couldn't get the engineer in so the plan was for him to come and check it when we came back.
I got it going but it kept stopping. I texted the plumber who gave me a couple of things to try and he came out on Monday, spend an hour on it and then said that it was basically goosed. This is a 15 year old boiler put in when the house was new, and I am not sure it was ever fully up to the job after speaking to a few of our neighbours. Also, we have a separate water tank with expansion chamber, so it's all going to be replaced with a combi boiler next Thursday. We'll just have to hobble on till then.

I had a chat with the guy doing the work on the same subject and he said that it would be a little over to make sure we get everything we need.
He's a good guy and has served us well over the years so I believe he will give us what we need. I'll still be checking it though.
