Random Irritations

The Spanish postal system, especially when dealing with post from the U.K. I’ve been waiting on a letter from the DWP since mid November. It’s just arrived, dated Nov 21st. There was another letter in the delivery from my private pension provider in which they state they haven’t received a reply to their first letter - I haven’t received the first letter.

Unfortunately, this is the norm for post from the U.K. Sometimes post is returned to the U.K. undelivered. We’re not out in the sticks, off grid.

Apologies if I'm stating the obvious here. Have you asked for correspondence from those places to be emailed instead of posted?

My pension company definitely email, not post. I think my govt messages come via email now, not 100% sure.

Terror twin decided last night not to go to bed

So the elf left a note this morning

After her emergency meeting with Santa she is instructed to return to the north pole if any more of this behaviour happens before Xmas and all surprises will be cancelled

I'm proud of how my youngest took it ..

"it's not fair on us. I'm always good
Please listen and stay in your bed"

Yes ! You have a go at her lol 😂

Yes, especially where they are asking for something in return rather than just sending something for info. One of the private pension companies is great to deal with. Yes, they still send hard copies but they also know to email too.

It’s irritating but in the great scheme of things stuff gets sorted, it just takes longer.

I haven't got kids so this isn't remotely a criticism of you, just a general thought prompted by your post...
At what point do we start to teach our kids that gaslighting and manipulation are bad? I'm guessing that the beginning of a few months of religious festivals isn't the time.

Once they stop believing in Santa I guess . Not sure id class it gaslighting though it's more teaching that if you behave like that you lose out on the fun plans

I have two occupational pensions (a DC and a DB). One of them doesn't send payslips at all, but you can download them if you wish. The other sends payslips by snail mail and when I asked if they could be emailed instead was told no. The two pensions come from the same back office payroll organisation!

I'm confused.
You shouldn't tell tell young children that Santa doesn't exist around religious festivals?

Just about feel human again after going out for “a few” drinks with lads from work yesterday & now I’ve got to go out with the mrs & friends & do it all over again 😨
I had the same issue last weekend. Friday 13th work Christmas lunch, got absolutely battered afterwards without planning to. Home at 1:30am - Saturday we were supposed to have a little party at nursery at 10 then golf at 12, I had to sack both off and stay in bed all day. Friends Christmas meal that evening, I managed a couple of ciders and that was it. Grim.

I hardly go out drinking anymore, and at the ripe old age of 38 I can't hack the hangovers at all.

not being able to do this electronically via email or just stopping snail mail seems madness and costly for the organisation - no wonder there has been good opportunities for more pragmatic upstarts to come in and take share in many areas. Like many DC schemes that have limited options - why anyone would stay with them rather than go to a SIPP with AJ Bell, Interative Investor or Hargreaves seems madness

No. Not what I was saying.
I was musing over the white lies that we tell our children to control their behaviour and comparing it to adult behaviour of telling lies to control and manipulate each other.
I asked at what point we teach them that the thing we've been doing to them is actually bad.
Then I inferred that a few months when our culture celebrates virgin birth, miracles and reanimation of the dead probably isn't the time.
I was being light, but I sound like a massive party pooper when required to explain it, which wasn't the plan. I actually like christmas.

Everyone tells white lies even as an adult to control behaviour, isn't that what appraisals at work are based on?

Gotcha

To be frank, I’m really struggling to see how some of these posts qualify as Random Irritations when they appear to be more along the lines of diary entries, family commentary and guidance matters.
……and that is an irritation.

Some people do treat this forum like their own Facebook pages

Where as others treat it like X and feel like they have to express their anger at what's been posted when they have no interest

Guinness is the answer.
I never feel rough if I stick to Guinness.
Staropramen on the other hand 😨
