I am braving the supermarket tonight to get the last few branded bits that I need that I cannot get in Aldi with my normal shop. Will be checking dates and anything that I can get from the perishable stuff I need will be in the trolley because if I can avoid another sop after this I will.

It is but when you take a year to grow them and know the mark up they make the rest of the year it a right royal kick in the Brazils
Hopefully farmers are getting the same rate, the supermarkets are just taking the hit at Christmas though. I think shoppers realise that these prices are not sustainable.

I've no doubt that supermarkets are evil towards growers. It's not a fair system.

Absolutely not fair , for all those who support farmers markets and farm shops (y)

However it's not practicable for everyone to source their fresh produce from Supermarkets who have and will continue make huge profits

Leaving my current job when we break up for Xmas (taken holiday for the time I would work at the beginning of the New Year). Been here over 5 years, no days off sick, worked hard, rarely took all my holiday.

Now I am leaving, everyone in the office got a Xmas card from one of the partners, everyone except me. The partner in charge of my department gave everyone a bottle as a thank you for the year, except me.

Just seems very petty and it is not as if I have not put the hours in, done good work for the firm or left on bad terms. Makes you feel very unappreciated and now leaving with a sour taste in my mouth (also not expecting to see the usual Xmas bonus in my pay cheqiue tomorrow).
Awful way to be treated, but maybe they are keeping your card and bottle as part of your going away gifts at your leaving do/speech.👍🏻

ASDA claimed it was to help British Farmers by ensuring they are not left with stockpiles that will go to waste.🤷‍♂️

How does it help farmers? I mean if it goes to waste surely they sell to the supermarket and the supermarket don't sell it so they make a loss on it

I can't see the farmers having them on only paid for them when their sold to customers

I suppose they’ve paid the farmers for X amount extra at normal prices and can charge the customer what they like.

If they don’t sell all they’ve bought that’s ASDA’s problem

Vast majority of sprouts, green vegs, carrots will be harvested in the lead up to Christmas and what isn't needed will stay un harvested for now until it's all lifted and then stored on farm . Potatoes were harvested back in Sept/Oct and are stored on farm until sold to wholesalers/supermarkets

0.08p for carrots, parsnips and sprouts. Our dogs absolutely love carrots, fresh or frozen, so they're happy we stocked up!
Without doubt the consumer and your doggies are the winners here but it just goes to show how much profit the Supermarkets are making that they can sell at these prices.
Wholesale price for carrots is £0.48/kg today

I'm trying to think what a bag usually is - not much more than that price I don't think? Owning an allotment I have a heap of respect for growers - it's been a rubbish year although apparently good for sprouts.

I might have alread proposed this some time back - my wife talking to me from several rooms away assuming I'm totally tuned in to her?
A friend of hers called tonight and they went into the living room. I was putting the bins out in the rain at the time.
I went back in, through the hall, the kitchen, the utility room into the garage to check the moustrap (another story, another day).
I was vaguely aware of a high pitched sound (not the mouse) and went to investigate.
Got to living room and said "Was that you?"
She said "Yes, would you put the kettle on love?".
😖
