The RAC. Driving back from Nottingham yesterday evening and on the M25 near the M40 and the car decided to develop an engine management fault, so limp moded it to a BP garage in Denham.
Initiated the breakdown process through the app at about 8pm - the timescale for recovery was between 11.50pm & 3.50am.
Called them at about 10pm, as app didn't seem to be updating that quickly and we talked to a (pretty rude) individual that advised that we were on the priority list.
It gets to 11.50 and instantly changes to 3.10-6.10 timeframe - what would it have changed to if we weren't on priority! We then start wondering what to do, as we are 45 mins away from home - do we try & get a taxi home or a hotel for the night?
We did call another breakdown company to see if we could get them to come out soon (LV Britannia - they were super helpful) but the RAC then called at midnight to say that they are organising an external recovery company for us (although they didn't turn up until about 1.30 and had been given the wrong location by the RAC).
Don't remember them being that bad, although the recovery driver did tell us that because they have so many corporate contracts, they can't keep up. We were lucky that we weren't on the hard shoulder on the M25, as that would have been nil fun, particularly in last nights weather.
We will be cancelling the RAC.

Parcel force and the post office now..

Few days ago the wedge I sold via eBay and send via evri arrived back at my house

I decided to send via parcel force to get it to my buyer as quickly as possible and also parcel force are supposed to be the best

I dropped it off at the local post office on Saturday

It's now Monday and it says awaiting drop off

So I called parcel force to check does this mean they just haven't collected it yet .. they said yes however the post office need to request them to collect it which is fair enough but I can't request for them to collect on the post office behalf

So I'm stuck waiting for the post office to call parcel force

I'm going to go down there and try to get the parcel back

Can't believe this. It's ridiculous I sold this wedge 2 weeks ago. Made a loss on it as it was brand new and sold it cheap to the guy

Let down by 2 delivery companies and a post office

I'm always polite, but I guess youre a member of the Frank Rijkaard fan club
I'm not a spitter. It wasn't serious.

I figured your "trying to get past the idiots blocking the walkways" comment wasn't serious either until you doubled down, although I figure that most of what you post is for effect.
As Orikuru suggested, when I'm one of the idiots blocking the walkways it's because there's nowhere to sit; not because I enjoy standing for an hour when there are empty seats.

Well the plot thickens , I went down the post office explained the situation they showed me the parcel isn't there. Parcel forced collected it 30 mins previously (so don't need to request it being picked up eh?)

So called parcel force because the tracking still says awaiting drop off

Oh don't worry it will say that until we scan it in depot

I'm sorry what? What kind of shoddy system do you run? Surely driver scans it then bosh

ATM nobody has a clue where the actual parcel is and there is no record of it being dropped off...or collected

And people say evri are bad

You should have just driven it to the seller's house yourself. Or walked there, it still would've been quicker.

Drop off directly at your local PF depot is the way to go.

Parcel Force and Roual Mail work on a scan in, not scan out, system.

Once it gets to the next location it’s scanned in and the track updates. This will keep happening until it gets to the delivery office where it will be scanned in as out for delivery (so technically scanned out).

Overall, they aren’t as bad as Evri by every measure available but you have had a dodgy bit of info with the “request a collection” bit. If a Post Office or Delivery Office has scanned in an item the driver should be notified that a pick up is required that day or the next if it has passed last pick up time for that office.

I did a 6 month stint with Royal Mail in 2015 looking at the delivery value streams. They didn’t like the recommendations we put forward.

Unfortunately the post office is a mile away and the PF is 10 miles away

I was going to get it collected but I was supposed to be busy today

It would have been cheaper and quicker tbh!! I could have been there and back in 3 hours

What got me is the fact that the PO scanned it. Nothing happened. Unable to provide me with a receipt and said "just leave it there"

Why are golf clubs so difficult to post? Every parcel I try and send the length restrictions rule out clubs

They definitely should have given you a proof of postage receipt. Sounds like they didn't complete the scan first time, someone noticed it was there and rescanned it, triggering the pick up (I'm assuming there but it makes most sense as the systems are all connected PO to PF).

Golf clubs are just a pain, but the only ones that should cause issue are drivers as most places have a 110cm rule.

Yeah it was weird how the PO couldn't scan it.

It's still saying right now "awaiting sender to drop off" well I did that Saturday

It's only a wedge

Every parcel company I tried limit was 60cm

DPD is most frustrating as I can't find how to send a golf club but all my clubs arrive by them!

Some of the limitations are for parcel shop drop offs as they could have limited storage space (Yodel and DHL do this AFAIK). Evri is 120cm if using a parcel shop for some odd reason (other than it's Evri).

I tend to use PF/RM as it has a better chance of getting there and getting there in one piece (especially sending records, couriers don't give a flying).

With Evri/Yodel used via Ebay Packlink their box size limit is 120, which happens to be the exact length of your standard golf club box.

Always use Parcelforce as it’s a good service.
Cons are the tracking is always one step behind the process.

But if you go to the post office on a Saturday it’s not getting collected until Monday pm.

I feel for my buyer. This wedge was collected 28th November, for a week it said on way back to sender

Arrived at My house Saturday so I thought nope this guys waited enough parcel force it asap for the guy , don't wait for evri to send again, take the hit on the postage

And then this rubbish happens lol 😆

See I expected this, however I also expected when it was handed to the PO that they would scan it and tracking would say something like

"At post office awaiting collection"

Rather than this

"Awaiting drop off by the sender at the drop off location"

Then to be told the post office have to request it to be collected and that they haven't done so (pf told me on phone)

Then for it to have been collected I expect it to be scanned onto his van and say "on way to depot" but no still "
Awaiting drop off by the sender at the drop off location"

The PO request a pick up only if they have a Parcelforce parcel.
Smaller POs might not get any and it saves the driver going there for nothing.

So the request for pickup would not go in until Monday .
Not the best system I agree but they do deliver it .

Would you prefer Evri who have an up to date tracking but don’t deliver it? 😂

Not sure tbh.

What got me was I phoned parcel force today at 14:00 and they said the post office hasn't requested your parcel to be picked up .. you need to go down and ask them to request .. or get your parcel back and we can pick it up from you

So if the post office did request it.... Parcel force have no record of it being requested
