Do I feel sorry for the driver?
No.

£220 + £110 + £88 and 6 penalty points is a waste of time. He had just bought an expensive car so £400 is not going to bother him much.

I would make that offence a 1-year driving ban.
No point to it being anything less.
That would have more effect in stopping people doing it.

As for Mikey? Not something I would do, unless authorised and paid to do it.
But he is providing a public service as a volunteer - just seems a bit of a strange thing to do - but so is paying golf.
"Everyone needs a hobby" maybe.

That is a pathetic slap on the wrist.

Do not use your phone while in control of a motor vehicle.
Disobey and you don't drive for a year.
I think that would stop people doing it.

How is it “pathetic” - it’s half way to a driving ban with the 6 points

Appropiate punishment to the act

Do you want people banned for a year for speeding as well ? Going through a red light ?

Perhaps a bit more than a Random Irritation. One of those late night phone calls we all dread.

A good friend, early 50’s, marathon runner, triathlete, tough mudder was out cycling yesterday. No other vehicles involved, didn’t crash, was found at the side of the rode dead.

Stunned, shocked and deeply saddened.
At least they went doing what they enjoy.
Sorry to hear that though.

The guy was just about parked up in barely moving traffic from what I saw, it’s not like he’s doing 70 down the motorway on his phone (which I see every day btw). Yes he should be penalised but there should be some sort of tiered penalty system with this being the lowest fine/penalty.
As for the guy in the bike, he needs to channel his energy elsewhere. Does anyone know if he goes into schools and does educational talks about this sort of thing?

Not really appropriate punishments for the offence

Points and fines

Bans for serious offences and accumulations of offences
That's how the points thing works - in most cases, but not the people who have more than 12 and are still legally driving as they claim 'hardship' if they lose their licence. That is how it is meant to work, it is a punishment and meant to cause some hardship!

Gregg Wallace thing with Kirsty Alsop offering her sage advice.. I don’t know if Gregg is offensive or not, but I do find Kirsty extremely condescending and offensive…

The whole point of banning the use of mobile phones while driving is because they can distract the drivers attention and could cause serious injury to the driver or others. I'm totally happy with that.
But it's ok to be cycling along looking into other cars and not paying attention to the road ahead.
The man in the car was not driving, he was at a stand still causing zero risk to himself or others around him.
The cyclist should mind his own business.

The guy was literally stopped still in traffic. He might have just been quickly adjusting the route on his Satnav (Google maps) or something. I use Google maps and sometimes it literally asked you with a pop-up whether there's still a traffic incident there or whatever. That fine is unbelievably harsh, I would be absolutely fuming with that w⚓ cyclist.

He’s breaking the law, stationary or not.
Surely a Cyclists needs to keep looking around to be aware of their surroundings and he spotted the Porsche driver on his phone from the Cycle path, Mikey then cycled back after him.

I know, I saw what happened.
And I also know what the law says.
Doesn't mean I have to agree with it.
You come out of a shop, get in your car, call your wife, ''I'll be home in 10 minutes''
Is that worth a £400 fine and 6 points?
