Random Irritations

Have posted this before I think but I was woken up one morning by crashing and banging downstairs. Went down to find one of my cats coming through the cat flap backwards with a full grown pheasant in its mouth.

We used to have a little ginger cat that was basically feral. It once came scratching the door and proudly led us outside to show us a squirrel that it had caught, it had obviously got tired dragging it the whole way given the squirrel was about the same size!

Unfortunately, a short while later she picked a fight with a moving car and lost.

I like to keep up with local news even if I’m not there just now. I see it’s that silly time of year (back to school) when parents send their kids off to school in shoes that are nothing like the stated uniform and then complain their child was sent home/excluded

Did you really think you/your kid would be the exception & get to wear whatever they want

Ah yes, they are coming out now. The social media outrage that little Chardonnay cannot go to school in pin healed stilettos and how little Jimmy has been told that a rainbow coloured mohawk is not appropriate even if it is to show his support of pride.

We were laughing about this at work today. 2 days into the new year and already someone in the area was sent home. The lists and rules given to parents are clear, not complicated. Why do parents think it doesn't apply to them? Why do they think people will have sympathy when they post on social media afterwards? It's a mystery but it is an annual event.

Sadly the ever desperate need to be 'social media famous' or 'local paper/news famous' if it is a slow news day and they want something to cover.

Plus it is never their fault, they re always being victimised.

I'm not a parent but my wife is a teacher, as were my parents. I've never understood the point of sending kids home for things like uniform breaches. I would have thought that internally excluding them for the day into a class of miscreants run by SMT or similar would be more a more impactive punishment, while keeping them within the educational establishment rather than on the street.
MrsA talks to me about some of the disciplinary stuff at her school and it mystifies me. If you're going to pick a fight with a teenager make it a worthwhile one.
Adults often turn up for work in blatantly inappropriate clothing. A manager might have words but nobody gets sent home.

Anyone who posts pictures of their kids off to school.

We woke to a road and pavement filled with little pictures and ditties for someone's kids first day at school. Literally 1/4m of chalk pictures and words of encouragement. 3 days later and it's all still there of course. They're American - enough said!!!

It’s almost like they didn’t know these days were coming and hadn’t prepared their kids.

When our baby was 4 months she started sleeping through to 7am which was lovely. Now she's 7 months and she wakes up at 5am every day without fail. Very annoying because you can't get her back to sleep since she thinks it's morning, so one of us has to get up and sit with her. 😴

Bed time routine for us is just absolute chaos. Sophia has never been a good sleeper, will wake in the night and we have to go in. Most of the time its just to lay her back down so not too bad, but can take a bit of time occasionally. She insists on playing hide and seek atm, and for a 3 year old she is incredibly good. Shes now run out of hiding places, but there has been a couple of times I genuinely havent been able to find her.

Yeah that's one option although that's really only the child and the school that inconvenienced. The parent (& sole cause) is off the hook, with limited incentive to correct their mistake
Making the parent collect the kid from school (as seems the popular choice) will hopefully give them the motivation to act like a parent in future

I don’t miss that.
But get ready when they become a teenager 🤯

I have done it before. I normally stick to ear buds but tend to have a speaker in my beach bag. Anyone decides to impost their musical tastes on everyone is at risk of a reminder that they are one bad, overly loud, hip hop song away from a loud blast of Slayer or, for special occasions, Leicester's finest, Lawnmower Death
If you want to retaliate, heavy metal isn't necessarily going to irritate.
The best option that is most likely to annoy would be some free jazz.
Perhaps A Love Supreme by John Coltrane?
Apparently it's a masterpiece, but just sounds like random squawking to me (and I'd guess many others).

When I am in the office, the guy in the flat above often starts his bass guitar practice, but it is often so loud that literally, the walls shake

So I find that is a good time to test the fire alarm, but keep it going for a bit to get them worried. The Fire Alarm is like a klaxon and very loud :)
