Random Irritations

Received an email from our golf club which included the following;

"We now have sanitary bins in the men's toilets in both the clubhouse toilets and changing room toilets, please discard used sanitary towels and incontinence pads in these rather than placing them in the waste bin."

The world's gone bonkers mental.

Have to hold my hands up, it wasn't what I'd feared.
It is to accommodate some of our elderly male members who have incontinence issues.
I confess to getting this one wrong.

You clearly don’t think sanitary products for menstruation have any place in the same toilets as you.

Correct, however, I'm not continuing this right here, it's too inflammatory and sensitive.
Too many people get the wrong end of various sticks .......................... so I'm out, unless you'd like to carry this on privately.

My knees. If you'll excuse the pun, it feels like they're on their last legs. Whenever I walk up or down stairs it feels like one of them is going to buckle. At the moment it's the left one, other times it is the right one. Generally they've been ok for running as long as it's on flat ground, i.e. football and tennis have been fine, but lately they're starting to go during these activities as well. Most rounds of golf I have to walk uphill at some point, and it feels like I'm dragging myself up now as one of the knees is always struggling. I am 'only' 36, but my knees have clicked - as in, whenever I stand up after being stationery they feel a bit locked and I have to bend them at an angle to 'click' them - since my early 20s. Given that I'm not even 40 yet I can only see them getting worse from here. Can't really just give up sports as I'll be 20 stone by the end of the year. Off to buy some support bandages today I guess.

Crikey Olly, that's a bummer. My guess is it's all that football you've played.

The good news is that knee replacement is becoming almost routine - by the time you need them, it should be a simple job.

It seems like a cartilage problem maybe - I'm basically Ledley King now. I need to get back into taking my Glucosamine HCL tablets daily - when I used to work from home I remembered to take them, now when I'm going into the office I completely forget.

i had similar issues about 20 years ago, constantly standing up and kneeling down with my job my knees clicked every time, I was advised to take a good quality glucosamine sulphate tablet daily and it certainly sorted my knees, everything else is knackered now though.

When I was rehabilitating from knee cartilage injury, the physio gave me a set of exercises based on the 1980s Jane Fonda prone hip, tum and bum workout and recommended I continue them after my 2 week intensive course.
I did it for 15 minutes every day for a few months and occasionally still do it now.
Their main advice was to strengthen the muscles that support the joint, rather than becoming physiologically or physically dependent on a knee brace that effectively makes them redundant.

Bin men emptying the bins during morning rush and school run and creating havoc

What time do you want them to start and stop then?
How about we stop parents driving their kids to school or wherever it is they are being taken, to reduce the traffic congestion and pollution they blame on those working for a living or supplyling neccessary goods?

Tbh they are a pain in the arse in and around London, I think they should start around 11pm. They would be able to get their routes done in half the time.

Yes they are, but they are an essential item we need. As they as much a pain as the Chelsea tractors taking Timothy to school so Miss can open the door so mommy doesn't have to get her trainers dirty before she goes off to the gym?

I remember being in Alvor in Portugal and the bin men were working about 11pm. But that might be more about the day time temperatures, than effective traffic management!😆

I’ll bet they still returned each bin to outside the house it originated from. Every Wednesday afternoon I have to go hunting for mine.

The physio I saw last when I was having an issue with my knee (ruptured PCL about 20 odd years ago, which was never fixed) said exactly the same thing Rich - have I been doing them religously, no, but you notice the difference when you don't. As you said, if you keep wearing the brace, your brain just tells your ligaments/tendons/muscles that they aren't required, so worse in the long run.

Been on hold 55 mins thus far to move from 4th on hold to 2nd on hold for the drs

When I booked my appointment it took about 5 mins on hold

I only need to cancel the appointment so someone else can have it!

You get to call, we have to go through an online vetting process first to assess if we are ill enough to call. Oh and all those online slots are normally gone by 8am

we were forced to move drs.. the funding was cut to our drs (accross the road 5 doors up.. brilliant drs and also very close to home to get things sorted) new drs havent been to yet.. seemed you have to phone up and they only release appointments for next 2 days

however it is better to call and wait (that was an hour to cancel) then the old place call call call call and always engaged for those early morning ones.. that said ill miss when they said just come knock on the door at 8am to get an emergancy appointment could send one of us early doors

Ours you can only get an appointment on the day and you need to go online and get an online slot to put in what is wrong and they decide if you can have an appointment. Slots open when I leave for work and are full by the time I get there.
