PSA Blood Test - Thoughts and Experience

Just think of the poor souls who don't have the symptoms, don't get a check up and find out too late they've got it and it's spread !

That's the crux of it Chris.

There is a lot of negativity spoken about having a PSA test, even from some medical professionals.

I just can't see why anyone would not get a check, or not be recommended having one.

It's that risk of missing the opportunity to find out!

And so glad everything's working out well for you Chris.

And we wouldn't want that here :)

Joking aside, my understanding was that an elevated PSA might not be indicative of prostate cancer - essentially a false positive - but by definition you won't know it's a false positive. And with some cases - as with Bill Turnbull - the test flags up something that is untreatable. So I could get an elevated PSA result with no symptoms but of a level that suggests untreatable if or when symptoms present. Do I want to live with that fear? That's the issue that was raised and that had me pondering. But i might have misunderstood - why I have asked.

As some once said, "There's nothing to fear but fear itself".

Glad everything's well then, with the escalated risk im my family of breast and prostate cancer. Ive had the tests for the past 5 years and so far no real problem. The last one picked out the increase in uric acid which causes gout, so on pills for that. Did see the new type of intervention for lack of urine flow and think is a possibility in preventing the other problem with prostate ( i.e. getting up 3 times during the night).
hope to see you at the FP event in June.
Remember always look on the bright side.

These days I don't get up 3 times in the night - I just get up once but wet the bed twice 😁
