Professional Golf

PGA Tour coverage is abysmal at the best of times but Sky taking the world feed and employing a second-rate presenter and pundit to fill in the gaps has made it even worse. They used to do it so much better and actually elevate the coverage they received.

This season is reaching new depths in how often important shots don't get shown (near) live, or in order, or at all, or happen out of shot so we only hear crowd reaction, in favour of showing someone else who isn't in contention/is standing around waiting (because pace of play is horrific)/is signing autographs/is on the range/etc.

It's getting pretty unwatchable at this point.

There seems to be a desperation to find and promote storylines, when the golf is the product most people tune in to watch - why can't they just show it!
It was awful this weekend. I switched it on around 10pm last night hoping to see some excitement. Instead all you get is replays, ‘and here’s so and so with a putt for birdie’ after not showing us the approach shot. Then we get 3-4 minutes watching sheffler signing autographs, more chit chat in place of the actual golf, and in the end I couldn’t be bothered. Watched Matsuyama’s tee shot on the 17th pull up just short of the water and the green, assumed that was it and switched it off!

First PGAT signature event this week and always enjoy watching Pebble beach.
Hopefully the weather plays ball which has been an issue in recent years.

Also Liv Adelaide this week.

I know its not everyone's cup of tea but its their signature event with huge crowds, great golf course and a great atmosphere.
Only slight issue is its on in the middle of the night live.

TNT are showing 90 mins extended highlights at 8pm though.

Right on the top of his backswing - he had to bail out of the shot. Shame - I think he deserved to win and without crowd distractions he might well have done.

The event felt like it fizzled out tbh, the WM get's a lot of hype around the atmosphere but it was pretty flat for the most part. The build out is impressive though.
I thought it was nip n tuck till the end. With only a handful of holes to go, anyone from 7 or 8 players were with a shot or two. Matsuyama was all over the shop and was fortunate to be leading. Hit 4 fairways all day. Michael Thor was unlucky. Just rolled off edge on 16 after an aggressive tee shot just caught the slope.
I like the course. Plenty of water, which always adds some jeopardy. Along with driveable par 4 and some risk n reward.

He seems to be the sort of player who doesn’t mind playing wherever

Can see him playing a few more before the Masters

At the moment he is making the ET events more watchable for some and he is playing well

I guess he goes wherever the appearance money is greatest. Following the cash is working for him at the moment, and he added star power to the event in Qatar. The rest of the leaderboard was largely anonymous.

Makes you wonder.
DPWT prize money might not be at PGA levels, but if you're picking up a Top 3 cheque basically every week then it might work out rather more lucrative than the occasional high finish on the PGAT.
If the tour strength skews too far PGAT>DPWT then might we see golfers take this path through choice? Even turn down their top10 PGAT invite and stay where they are?

Rumours that Brian Rollap wants to just announce that The Players is now the 5th Major...

Ooofff that's a slippery slope.

Totally understand his frustration, he runs the most powerful organisation in golf and doesn't own any of the 5 biggest events in the sport.

Just the PGAT trying to flex that they’re the biggest and deserve another major. There are 4 majors the Players is a big event but it should never be a major,
If ever there were to be a 5th major it should be in another continent or country somewhere like Asia or Australia.

Yeah, I might start calling my missus Cameron Diaz....... :ROFLMAO:

He can decide to call it what he wants, but it is not a major and never will be.

We are living in the era where facts are irrelevant. You can make your own truth and it becomes reality if you have a loud enough voice.
