So I have decided to give the solo golf thing a go over the next few weeks. As said elsewhere, some of my regular pps have been falling away leaving me with little choice. Hopefully this will take me through the autumn/winter period until the fair weather players return.

I am just wondering, given the joys of the british weather, what are the best shoes for keeping dry/warm on the course?

I ususally wear footjoy greenjoys. But being white, I don't want to ruin them in the mud etc. Plus I don't think they will hold up too well in the wet. So I am looking for shoes matching the comfort of the FJ GJ, but with a more protection from the elements.

Also, I have the base layers & jackets ready to go. Are there any particular trousers you would recommend? I don't mean wet weather over trousers but actual trousers.

Finally as there is a chance of them getting pretty muddy & potentially ruined looking to go as cheap as possible.

Anything else you would recommend for the wetter/colder weather?

From the OP I thought this related to somewhere where you actually get winter weather! Up here I usually pull a jumper on of it gets really cold.

Dryjoys, I've been wearing them for over 20 years and they've never let me down. Comfortable straight out of the box and totally waterproof.

Why do people say things like this? I've tried a couple of pairs of Dryjoys and they crippled me! It's horses for courses, Adidas shoes are always comfortable on me but not necessarily on other people.

To the OP....have a look at a decent pair of waterproof socks, they will set you back about £25 and keep out any water that leaks in through your shoes

I had a pair of nikes before & they were awful. Went to my greenjoys & they literally are a joy all the way to the 18th green!!!

I will get some decent socks too, can you recommend any particular?

Thanks Jack, my mind went blank when I typed my original reply, couldn't remember the brand to save my life

If you want warm for the winter go for the thermal just bear in mind that some of the SealSkinz can be very thick, and you need to follow the care instructions to the letter. I asked HID to put them in the wash, she then put them in the dryer, so that was £23 down the pan. But yes they are great, they also do waterproof Beanie hats which are good and gloves.

Have a look at their website and then shop round, shiny bikes do lots of their gear at good prices.

Simple tips for winter:

Waterproof golf bag
Waterproof jacket/trews
Double canopy brolly
Mcwets

If you can find them the Adidas adizero six spikes served me very well over the last winter
