No we have this on the East Coast too, but I liked to eat the side pastry first just leaving the base and the meat, made it a much neater fit, usually tried to squeeze a few of the chips on their too ... mince pie supper and a buttered roll ?Cant beat a scotch pie on a crispy mortons buttered roll, slabbered in brown sauce.

Don't mind any sort of pastry myself, but those things that come in a obling ceramic dish with pastry (any sort,) plonked on top are not pies. It's a stew dressed up as a pie.None of that puff pastry rubbish tho ?
