Preferred Pies

Got to be steak and ale in shortcrust for me, big chunks of soft slow cooked beef in a delicious gravy ?
What’s your preferred pie?

Steak and Ale is a top call but I like a chcken and leek or chicken and mushroom as an alternative.

As long it has meat in it, and more importantly, a top AND a bottom then it is good for me. Nothing worse than ordering a pie in a restaurant and getting some stew with a slice of pastry on top

No side and bottom means it is not a pie. I get very grumpy when I order a pie and get served a stew with a lid.

Heaven is Hollands meat and potato but they are a rare find in the NE. (It's been so many years since I've had one that the quality may have lapsed. I hope not)

Next up is steak and kidney but it has to be the real deal, not cheapo filling.

A proper pie is a fine thing but sadly too many are not up to the task.

Now a good steak and kidney pudding is a thing of beauty but puddings seem to be out of fashion in favour of the more trendy pie

Normally the name gives it away if it is coming with mash on top

Mash on top though, what about the traditional Fish pie? Done well with decent fish, its a thing of beauty! But technically is it a pie?
