My club are giving it a whirl throughout April,4 rounds with an order of merit thing going on as well.

Really looking forward to it and I am going to have a bash after graft.

Anyone else had a pop at it or had their clubs doing it?

I think it will be a great bit of fun and something different to the norm.

played the GM day at the grove last year, was fun for a change but wouldnt go overboard about the format. Didnt help for me that I had 3 shot holes and 3 powerplays to use so my strategy was rather limited! Wouldve been more fun playing off scratch or 18 and actually having to work out where best to take them

We are putting a lot of the emphasis on it being 'fun' and a good way to start the season off.

My place has had had for the past 2 years and our is on Saturday,i cant make it due to work but they play it over 18 holes,my mate won it last season and the guys thourghly enjoyed it even if some of pin positions were scary.

I played the GM day at the Grove as well and although I didn't actively dis-like it, I wasn't too taken with the concept.
It's great if you have shots to play with and can choose where to take your Powerplays.
Many of us are happy to just hit the green - aiming for a specific flag isn't as easy as it seems.
You can be out of the running very quickly - if you mess up your PP holes there's little chance of getting a decent score.
Like I said, I didn't hate it, but it's not something that I'd personally go in for again. If I was going to play in a "fun" comp I'd rather a Scramble...

Not tried it but woud like to. I would like to see a weekend afternoon/evening comp with barbecue and families to make a fun day. Perhaps run it in to an evening event to get some much needed bar revenue.

Exactly why we have scheduled the last event for a Friday, make a night of it,bit of food, banter and beer.

Another who played the Grove. Not knowing the course didn't help and so it was a bit of a unknown quantity. Trying to get the club to do one this year at my place and if you know the holes you can attack on I think will make a difference. Its an interesting format but I'm not overly sold on it

I echo all of the above. I loved the idea, but not really any scope for choosing your PP holes strategically.

Maybe if PP holes were double points for any score rather just birdie or better you could choose a non-shot hole but as it was you have to go with where you're 'shotting'.
