Fairness between Genders in a golf competition.

I have a small sympathy with the notion of "certain" competitions balloting out high handicappers (if necessary) but if it's a mixed one, the "bar" should be the same!
The bar can be the same even with different handicap levels. You could set the bar to allow the best X% of each gender enter and this would most likely result in different handicap levels.

I’d say it’s a little bit off and the higher handicap gents have a point.
I’d also be surprised if some of the lower handicap players didn’t have concerns as well.
My view is golf clubs should be totally non discriminatory places, and although this is only a marginal example of that, it still is nonetheless.

You could argue that having handicap levels at all is discriminatory if it is a bar to entry or the ability to win a prize.

You could, but you’d be discriminating against people’s ability, which in the vast majority of cases, they can do something about.

Agreed that is the case in the vast majority but the remainder could be infirmity or physical impairment - difficult to distinguish especially if they are all paying t(e same membership fees and access is denied.

Access isn’t being denied though - people are just being asked to play with a handicap limit.

Yes, sorry you are right. However they are subsidising others as they are being put at a disadvantage if they elect to play or if they cannot play/get a tee time without entering the competition..

I'm playing in the Mixed Winter League this winter - format is Greensomes. Max CH of 28 for men and 36 for women. Can't see it makes any difference the different max CHs - but can only think its simply to enable more ladies to pair up with a bloke to enter. For the first time the comp will be run with ladies and gents SIs aligned - so the debate around which SI applies for any hole is no longer.

At a Perth club a few years back the Women complained about being Associate Members, they did not have voting rights.

Committee decided to make them Full Members.

Result.....their Membership went up $1000......club received an extra $100,000 a year, and every year from then on, a great result. :ROFLMAO:

Whatever the financial implications; on what level would anyone want to be a member of a club where men can get the vote and not women? Never mind the 21st century, that’s not even in the 20th. Still, given the shameful goings on at places like Muirfield, in this century, it’s not like the UK should be casting any stones…

My wife just said, "I don't care about club politics, I'd prefer the $1000 off my fees!"

Mind you, you're right. Does everyone get a choice? I'd happily waive my vote for half subs. As would most folk I play with.

It'd never happen as the impact on revenue would be disastrous. 😉

Are you asking about "mixed" events, where men and women compete against each other, or asking about separate men's events and women's events (where the men compete only against the men and the women compete only against the women), ie, two separate competitions?
No. Club individual board competitions where both genders play at the same time for the same prize.
