The purpose would be to encourage more golfers to get a membership, therefore generating more monthly, guaranteed revenue for the clubs.
And where are all these clubs that need more members? As far as I am aware, most clubs have healthy membership lists, a lot with waiting lists. Those clubs that aren't full and need members are likely to be at the lower end of the scale so people wouldn't swap from other clubs to play a lesser course.

Maybe people at lesser courses would like to play other lesser courses?

So it makes memberships more attractive by expanding what's included in a clubs membership package and helps the club sell more memberships? (this is a good thing (y) )
So as I say above, the app (if one is needed) has to be for clubs to use not players

edit to add: so clubs agree the swap between them and then let their members open the app to haggle over the 'where to swap with'

The golfing dream 😎
Ha ha, it depends what you can afford 🤷‍♀️

Even if it ends up being similar to a reciprocal, with a guest rate being the charge, I think that is a win. It may encourage a wider use of reciprocals by clubs. Equally, I understand if clubs say no and want to protect the members times. It's a different balance for different clubs.

All our reciprocals, about 20, are free but only 1 or 2 fourballs from our club per week allowed at each of them. Thought free was the norm?

Ours used to be free.
But now it’s £10 to the Captains charity.
We have eight courses to choose from.

When I was at my last club I was able to play any other Jewish club in the world free.!

I want to float an idea by golfers.

Would you be more likely to join a club, if you were not restricted to that one club?

If an app was launched, in which golfers could swap one of their rounds, with another app user, for a round at their course, would you use that app?

Say, it was once or twice a month and each course had a rating, so you weren't giving away a round at a great course, for a lesser course.
You mean like Thousand Greens and OpenRounds?

In the South West there are a lot of courses which have reciprocal arrangements so not really necessary here.

The club tried to end it once because they got nothing out of it and it took a vote at the AGM to bring it back.

We have a goodly number of reciprocals....but not really as good as it sounds. Many are too far away. Or....only 2 tee times in any day. So....when they kick us off the course for yet another Open waste of time...we quite often can't play, or have to drive half way to Africa to get a game.

A Jewish club, never knew that was a thing. Do they take anyone as a member?
I know Bonnyton outside Glasgow was started up by the Jewish community when they were denied membership at a lot of the other clubs. They have a lot of reciprocals with other clubs of similar heritage and certainly are open to all, I had a friend who was a member there. Very nice course to play as well.

Exactly this. Plus, you're correct, it would be more beneficial for the clubs to use, not necessarily the players.

There are plenty clubs in need of members. If the lower price point courses would benefit more, it would/could solely be for them.

All the benefits of being a member at your own course but, you could offer one round at your course, for the chance to play one round at someone else's course, for free.
You need to explain this better. I am a memeber of a golf course and can play pretty much when I like at that club. That means I don't have a specific number of rounds I can use, so what am I swapping, & what is in it for my golf club.
