plus handicaps

Wasnt there some randon bloke years ago that keeped blagging himself onto top tour events and comps. He played off something stupid like 21. I'm sure he recently died.

It was Maurice Flitcroft who blagged his way into Open Qualifying in I think 1976. Scored about 120. Never got to the Open proper. He tried again but never managed to get an entry form past the officials

I think you mean Maurice Flitcroft. Didn't actually get into any tournaments but he managed to get as far as teeing it up in Open qualifying on a couple of occasions using false names. Quite a famous character, I have a mental picture in my head that Doon Frae Troon looks like him :D

As plus handicaps were mentioned on another thread, I thought a new thread was needed. My question is , when plus h/c amateur golfers are invited to play in major pro comps i.e. The Open.
Do they play off scratch for the amateur title, even though there might players who would normally get strokes from a lower plus h/c player. Say a plus 1 v a plus 4 ??.

Think about it, a +4 amateur plays a pro event. He is paired with Tiger in the first round, Tiger is off scratch, our amateur has to give 4 shots back to the course. Wouldn't really make sense would it :D

Not what I meant , I was meaning a plus 1 player would be losing strokes to other lower h/c amateurs competing .
I.E your plus 4 player would normally be giving the plus 1 player 3 shots in norm h/c comps. But he loses these shots in pro comps.

Ah right, I see, sorry.
