Have to agree with others that they should just leave the Rota as it is and not add any. Means if Murfield decide to revote in a couple years then that gives them the option to come back in.

Re Royal County Down, I was over there in 2000 when the Seniors was played and the traffic was horrendous heading back up towards Belfast after the Sunday's play.

Newcastle itself was a major disappointment.

Newcastle is just one long row of shops with a paddling pool in the middle, Like a mini version of Blackpool without the KMQ hats.

Ah I see, again excuse my ignorance but when was the last time a lady golfer qualified for the open ? + has a man ever been given a place in the British Ladies Open (or whatever its called).

That's not the point. The R&A taking the open to a men's only club wouldn't be much different the FA playing the FA cup final at a 'whites' only football stadium

With Royal Portrush on the rota for 2019 the loss of Muirfield isn't that difficult to deal with. Royal Portrush can fill it's place rather than getting a token one off Open.

This!

Muirfield might eventually allow Ladies to belong, but I suspect much of the vote against was to, effectively, ditch The Open from it!

Royal Aberdeen would be my 'alternative'! Logistics issues will always be the show-stopper for a new Open venue, but there doesn't seem to be major issues for RA!

Im sure they can sort the range issue, they did for the Scottish Open but a tented village to suit the demands of the Open Championship might be tough and would rely heavily on neighbours being generous.

I personally would love to see it at Royal Aberdeen, it's a smashing course.

I'd say it's more akin to the FA taking England to play at a club where they don't have any women's team. **ahem Man U ahem**

I don't know, it has a nice sea front, walks into the Mourne mountains, tolleymore forest park, some ok pubs, and a proper old school sweet shop. I quite like it. The swimming pool is naff, and the Catholic Church blights the landscape, but then you can't have everything!

Can someone advise why Prestwick wouldn't be a possibility, is it mainly down to course length?

Throw one in the mix - Royal Aberdeen front 9 and Murcar's front 9 (right next door). Probably 16-17 holes straight into the wind.

Would be fun to watch.

There are a couple of quirky holes at Prestwick that I believe aren't suitable for a modern professional golf championship. The blind par 3 ( hole 5 or so ) and the par 4 near the end with the blind approach (17th?). Yes, there are those that think such things would be fun but they would turn one of the Majors into a laughing stock, just as the USGA occasionally do with the US Open.
