No smoking on the course

I had a 1 month trial membership at Hillsborough last year which was brilliant for £60. It's a lovely track and some great members. Played a roll up with the PC who caught the Yorkshire Ripper!

It was taking me as long to get there than it does Waterton so looked around and Hillsborough membership shot up in price.

Only seen Woolley and Tankersley on James Robinson YouTube but they look good!
Wakefield golf club is a nice track as well, if you’ve never played it.

I drive past that on the back lane from Newmiller Dam to Walton and it looks good through the trees. That's as close as I'll probably get I'm afraid - can't play more than two or three times a week and I've got 20 another 14 cards to get in to get my handicap sorted. Every time I play it goes up and down like a porn stars todger!!

Think the locals call it Woodthorpe from what I gather. It's a bit like the locals at Chesterfield call it Walton because it's in a district called Walton in Chesterfield.
Aye, lad. Fifty year ago it were known as nowt else but Woodthorpe.
Well, its at the end of Woodthorpe Lane, isn't it.
Lived in Sandal, me. Went to the Junior school theer.
Woodthorpe were a bit posh for us. We played at Barnsley municipal.
Lupset were crap. Bet it still is.

Had a lovely round with a group from Crofton WMC and they called it Woodthorpe but didn't rate it compared to Waterton. They rushed off after to their Club for several pints lol!!

No smoking came in last Monday…

aside…played Hillsborough on Monday with two members and thoroughly enjoyed it. Fairways are very dry mind.

Seen Alnwick football ground go up in flames the other day. The grass bankings burned very nicely so hardly surprising a grass facility would ban smoking.

Hahah..... struggling to get me head around 'posh' associated with Wakefield!!
However, everything is relative & having grown up in SW Durham in the 50's & 60's everything down this way is pretty 'posh'.
I've played everything around Leeds & most in West, East & N Yorkshire so need to do a but around the Sheffield area. I see that Tankersley is just 37mins from me so a good start, though I'm just so spoiled by the N Leeds golf opportunities.

I'm a Dee daa from Sheffield so not local to Waterton but they really went out of their way to make me a member!

Played many of the courses around here - Hillsborough, Chesterfield, Abbeydale, Lees Hall, all the municipal courses in the area and Rufford Park.

Have enrolled in the Mizuno Pairs at Hallamshire and Alwoodley for something special!

I booked the Hallamshire singles. Need to get a practice round in beforehand tbh.

Another life-shortening product the US is happy to have sold to citizens as a demonstration of freedom! And a handy contributor to state financing.
They wouldn't dare ban smoking on the courses I play.
Though they do have ashtrays in carts and on every tee

There's some great areas around Wakey, Lupsit, or Lumpashit as some folk call it is a bit of a sprawling estate, but not actually that bad, but the rest of the city and surrounding areas is generally made up of pretty solid suburban housing.

Rotherham GC is well worth a visit if you start venturing south as well.

I've walked around it many times whilst my Daughter was having therapy nearby. Looks a cracking course from behind the walls!

An acquaintance was a member for a while but moved to Hillsborough because he felt it was cliguey.
