New clubs or no clubs for 2025?

With all the new models hitting our shelves this is normally the time where I go in search of previous models at great deals….. but…, this year I’m going with a different approach.

It’s clearly the sheriff not the shotgun that’s at fault so for 2025 I’m buying no new clubs!

I’ve got a 3 iron currently being re shafted which was purchased pre Christmas and the only other tinkering may be a regrip on the putter, but I’m going no new clubs for 2025, consumables and clothing only.

Do any of the gear whores on here think they can last an entire year?

Got some new clubs a couple of weeks ago - ex demo Qi irons for about 2/3 cost of new. Most of the set looked completely brand new and not even seen a golf ball before. They replaced a set of TM M1s which I bought new in 2017 so should last me a while. Never had the inclination to be a serial changer.

I have a fitting on Friday evening so potential to have some new irons in the bag before the season starts.

I was content with what I had at the start of last season but a wet spell, no golf early on, led to a visit to a second hand shop in Newcastle and a bored wedge purchase that I didn't really need. At the end of the season, I then changed my irons. Very happy with that change.

So, 2 changes that I did not forsee.

Nothing on the horizon at the moment but I said that this time last year  . I suspect the putter is the most at risk club but we will see.

Did not want to start a new thread.

I need a new putter. Mallet as my putting is terrible. No idea what to buy. Anybody any ideas for a high handicapper.

Probably go to where I went last week, Carus Green GC, for. a putting fitting. Always had PING but these Odyssey look appealing, the price does not!

Famous last words of course, but I'm not looking to replace anything at the moment. Driver and 3 wood were purchased near the end of last year, so they'll be in the bag for a while. My irons and hybrid are over two years old, but I wouldn't be looking at replacing them until they are over five years. The 50 & 54 are slightly less than two years in the bag, so same deal there really - won't be replaced until they're knocking on five years or more. The 60 is just for bunkers so pointless buying a new one of them. And the putter - has been in the bag one year and it's amazing, I'm putting better than I ever have in my life, so I want that to continue for a long, long time.

That only leaves one potential candidate for an upgrade - the 7 wood. I've now had it over four years, but it's one of those things where it's become an old trusty, I know I can hit it from all kind of different lies, plus it has the 'baffler' type rails on the bottom which I really like and I don't see them on any new models. So I would have a hard time finding a replacement for it I think.

So yeah, nothing planned, but this time last year I would have told I'd never put a 3 wood back in the bag whereas now it's one of my favourite clubs, so God knows. Things can change. 😄

I'm thinking of maybe changing my driver but it won't be a 2025 model I buy, maybe try out a TSR just as a change away from Callaway. I think I'm happy with everything else.

I'm planning on fixing my swingpath with the driver (-13.9, plus 5° downward angle of attack to boot!), but if that proves too difficult, I may be forced to buy a mini driver!
I carry it 200 yards on average, which is the same as my 3 wood. Not good.
Ball speed is 136 - 140mph, so I should be able to carry a driver 220 at least.
Lots to work on, but hopefully I can fix it and not buy any new equipment in 2025.
Oh yeah, and no way are you not buying another putter in 2025 @Oddsocks ! 🤣

I got an Odyssey O-Works #7 and it changed my life. Always had toe-hang anser style ones before, but the face-balanced mallet (or kind of semi-mallet that one) is absolutely streets better for me.

Anything could be changed at any time in my bag....
Having said that, if I had to play with the current line up all year then I could......whether I will is the 100 billion dollar question......

She's put her foot down on new clubs - hasn't she 😁😁

Sounds like a lot to work on 🙄

Re the new putter, at most it may be a grip tinker but that’s it.

I have just purchased a hybrid, if that goes well then it should be doable, but who knows at this point. I certainly don't want to spend the money on new clubs, but the excitement of a purchase may win out...

No chance!

I’m after a ping g430 max 10k driver, just waiting for the prices to drop a bit once the g440 hits the courses. And I also need a hybrid as I’ve just sold mine…been struggling to hit a hybrid for ages and so I’m in a ‘buy try sell’ spiral!

Not sure the G430 10K will drop much as I believe it is staying a current model within the 440 range.

No changes planned for me.

Will spend my time improving...

Swing tempo for all clubs and correcting the low point of iron swing to improve ball striking.

The only thing I really want to try is the new Mizuno Pro X ball.
