New clubs or no clubs for 2025?

Did not want to start a new thread.

I need a new putter. Mallet as my putting is terrible. No idea what to buy. Anybody any ideas for a high handicapper.

Probably go to where I went last week, Carus Green GC, for. a putting fitting. Always had PING but these Odyssey look appealing, the price does not!

Why not consider LAB Golf putters? Very expensive but somehow ‘innovative’ / different enough from standard putters, to have raised eyebrows….if putting is as bad as you say it is, then maybe do something drastically different…

Other brands are likely to be very almost imperceptibly different from each other, so how much will your putting change with a standard iteration?

Being a Titleist fanboy, new releases tend to be early quarter 4, so already done mine.

The new Ping driver does look a whopper, but if straight, the only thing we chase is distance and am a firm believer no head can add to that and it's all about the shaft. I'm using a very light shaft and can't imagine going heavier and subsequesntly further.

When it comes to mallets then you can’t ever go wrong with a TM spider but always issues with the paint work

But the new Odyesseys are supposed to be very good

What’s your budget

This is very good

Changed almost all of my clubs over the past 3 years from stiff shaft to regular, as now I am an old codger.
Only stiffie left is my 3 hybrid. Its a Callaway Diablo 18 degree, which was about the oldest club in my bag before the regular replacements anyway.
Fitting in early February once all the new goodies come into the proshop, to see if it needs replacing.

Have demoed the Mizuno 245's and the Ping i530's but neither performed any better than my PXG's so I'm not expecting to change ( even though my brain was telling me the felt so much better 😂)

Last an entire year?
Not a chance.

This bad boy arrived today, did someone mention mallet putters?
It has a hefty lead back weight and after a putt on the carpet I can't wait to try it out once the weather improves.

I'm planning on fixing my swingpath with the driver (-13.9, plus 5° downward angle of attack to boot!), but if that proves too difficult, I may be forced to buy a mini driver!
I carry it 200 yards on average, which is the same as my 3 wood. Not good.
Ball speed is 136 - 140mph, so I should be able to carry a driver 220 at least.
Lots to work on, but hopefully I can fix it and not buy any new equipment in 2025.
Oh yeah, and no way are you not buying another putter in 2025 @Oddsocks ! 🤣
Give this a go if you don't already setup your arms like this. I've found it helps massively with path. Might be worth a shot as a quick check at least.

Not buying anything new but bought an old driver this week off ebay just for the shaft. Will get it pulled, fitted with the correct adapter and try it out in my current driver.

Too late!! I have already bought two 'new to me' sets of irons and to new shafts to try on my driver,
already tried one and it is destined to be back on ebay and the other got taken for a spin today (that one might be a keeper).

God, I hope not, I've been trying desperately to become a reformed character, but the pull has proved too great.

After purchasing 7 drivers, 3 sets of irons. only 4 wedges. 3 fairways and a putter last year* I had convinced myself with the purchase of the Mizuno HMP that I was finally set, only to go and buy a BB B21 5 wood and a set of TM P7MC last week.

Most of that stuff was in, tried, and out. Some of it was new but not current new, usually old model but new with a wrapper, much cheaper.

The sig as it stands is kind of right, decision required on which irons to go into the season with. Though plenty of time for that yet.

*Previous years were way worse.

I'm in the "no new clubs" group. At age 75 I've decided there is nothing new under the sun that is going to improve my game. I'm short off the tee but very straight. There is no magic driver out there that's going to give me 30 to 50 more yards. To continue to enjoy the game, I've moved up to just under 6000 yards and constantly work on my short game and putting. I broke 80 around a dozen times in 2024. Hopefully, once I get my new knee I can continue to shoot around 80 and play for a few more years.
Having said that, there's always a chance I will wander into Dick's Sporting Goods and buy a new fairway wood on an impulse next summer.

You bought 7 drivers in one year?? That's incredible. Even @Burnsey isn't rivalling that.

I changed irons pre Christmas to Mizuno blades from T300’s. Next to difference in distance which is interesting considering the loft difference.

Don’t plan on changing anything else. Happy with bag set up but I do have a lob wedge gap. Currently go from PW to 52-56 so I suspect I need something in that 48-50 range.

Might end up being an overhaul at bottom of the bag going 50-54-60

Am seriously considering changing both Driver (current driver is 9 years old) and Irons (current set was bought 2nd hand but are 14 years old).... but thought the same last year and didn't change, but hope to play and practice more this year.

I'm predisposed to think the Cobra DS Adapt is a good option for the driver (I like technical / overly informative) but the reviews of all the drivers are basically the same - "it's good but....". I am more interested in the shaft this time round so will get a fitting and keep an open mind. I'm trying to improve my swing speed so not really interested in distance but mishits and dispersion tightening would be factors.

Iron wise - don't have a clue. Even though mine are 14 years old, I wouldn't really expect much difference - in fact, probably getting more out of the current set than ever (a few swing tweaks).

In reality I'll probably overthink it and not do anything!

Of course there will be a difference. I went from a 2016 set to a 2022 set and they were pretty much a whole club longer. And that's only a six year gap. Plus the shafts were similar as I stuck with Callaway and got pretty much the upgrade on the old set.
