New Shineys. Collected this morning. Spec as per new signature below. Still stuck at work so may not be able to hit them before playing Wisley tomorrow. Very, very excited! :D

PS I did the Ping custom fit thing at Gainsborough. Highly recommended. Assuming I don't chop it up tomorrow of course...........

Sounds like you had a great day !!! Tell us a bit more about it, how long did it take ? Did you hit the G25 irons ?

Here they are in all their glory! The Scotty's been with me a while and is not going anywhere! Just got in from work, so no time for range before Wisley. Although I suspect their range will be quite tasty if I get there early enough.

To answer your question Lump I'm 6'5", hence the desire for custom fit.

The Ping experience was quality. Took about two hours to go through the irons, wedges, then woods. The guy there was very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. We had a chat first about my golf and why I was looking to change clubs. I expressed a preference for i20 as my pro had lent me his for a couple of rounds and I really got on well with them. Also I prefer the look to the G25 irons.

He then put me on the Trackman with an i20 seven iron purple dot, with a couple of different shafts to try. I was hitting everything out of the toe, so he put some strike tape on the sole and had me hit a few off the strike mat thing. As a result of this he got the mallet out and gave me an even more upright lie angle!

We then tried about four or five different shafts. I must have hit about a dozen shots (all with the seven iron) with each shaft. He was asking me for feedback, which clearly at this point was subjective. I really liked the feel of the KBS shaft, quite liked the various Ping options and didn't like the feel of the the Project X.

We then looked at the Trakman data. I hit the Project X the furthest by my dispersion was all over the place. The KBS went nearly as far, and further than all the Ping shafts, but the dispersion pattern was tightest of all. We went for the KBS, a no brainer really. Then looked at the various wedges, which he specced as not quite so upright (for shots around the green), but same shaft spec. I went for the wider sole on the 54' & 58' as I'm quite steep with the wedges.

We then did a similar process with the driver and fairways. I tried, Anser and i20, but the G25s just worked best for me. The stock Ping Tour Stiff shaft worked best for me. He added half an inch to the shaft on the rescue, but left the other two standard length.

At the end he looked at my putter - the Scotty Cameron. I didn't want to change it really, but he had me hit a few with that Ping App thing and recommended I keep the Scotty. He also whispered "it's lovely isn't it"!

So, all in all a really good experience. I know there are some differing views on custom fit, but at my height I like the knowledge that everything fits. Also I was amazed at the difference a shaft makes to the same golf shot. Ping normally turn your order around in three or four days. Mine was about two weeks as the KBS shafts were out of stock. You have to arrange it all with your pro. As I said at the start, I'd highly recommend it.
