LIV Golf

That really is quite a pathetic comment. Regardless of whether people like LIV or not and regardless of how much these guys earn. Nobody should gloat over things like this and highlights then bitterness of people that can’t accept different things!
Well if it's true you better get strapped in for a lot more.. 🤣.
Also one of the least offensive things I've read on this thread..

The escapade in the middle east is costing billions daily and although Saudi have another pipeline to export their oil it's still had a massive impact on revenue.
Possibly looking to make economies

I never said it was offensive. I do think it’s pathetic to gloat over things like this though, especially as if true people will be losing jobs and I’m not talking about the players 👍

Looked on mainstream media and nothing showing as yet. Where are these rumours being shown?

I don’t do Insta/X etc

That’s standard these days , mainstream media is about a day behind most social media

At the moment it’s all just the same stuff about announcements etc

There doesn’t too be to much social media traffic from LIV with an event next week

find it hard to believe that they would just break contracts and close it all down.

although i had heard rumours that the big boss lad had started to trust the lad involved with the boxing (Turki) more than Wor Yas (as the mags like to call him). all seems a bit of a mess with 3 figureheads encroaching and infighting as there's also the sports minister

With what’s happening globally then the economics of a project that’s losing money consistently then it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them close it down

But that’s got to cost them and maybe more than playing for the rest of the season because there are some big contracts with players , no doubt ticket sales need refunded etc

Seems very strange to just stop like that

Maybe they are looking at something with the DP tour ? But again that will cost money

But if they do stop then the DP tour and Asian Tour will get a huge boost

If crude oil is now over 50% more expensive than it was 2 months ago, then aren’t exporting countries making considerably more money now than previously? (Obviously those that have a route to market).
Saudi has had to use some of its defence capabilities but has not been attacked nearly as often as the Gulf states so that the relative cost to them is minimal in comparison.

Issue for Saudi is one of the routes they are using to export is heavily impacted

They can't ship it out. It's backing up costing them billions

Rumours are flying across social media, ranging from a deal with the DPWT to overnight closure and a lot in between. The Gulf situation may well be impacting things, but the same rumours in relation to their other projects are not flying around social media so can't be exclusively that, although that's not to say it won't be touted as a reason for their announcement (if majority of speculation is correct and it's a negative announcement). If staff have not been paid that is a terrible situation, when it happens to football teams the concern isn't about the stars but about the ordinary people and that should be the concern here.

Previous 'bombshell' announcements have been underwhelming in recent times but they have had positive connotations whereas this seems to be quite negative. If it's the end, I think that's a shame for a few reasons, the PGAT will have the monopoly in golf again and the DPWT will be impacted negatively in the medium term. Appreciate LIV is not everyone's cup of tea but it had built some momentum this year.

With the current situation if LIV suddenly stopped then the DP tour is in a position to pick up those players a lot better , don’t think it’s a negative for DP Tour - if anything a big positive

Those players will need to play somewhere and it won’t be on the PgaT for most of them

I can't say that I am particularly surprised by this if it is true. As a venture it as about disruption, but it hasn't really panned out and PIF have found that golf fans (for the most part) are a stoic bunch when it comes to the game and they don't really like disruption. There have been several attempts to "modernise" golf (think the Sixes format) over recent years and none have really panned out - sometimes you have to stand back and as "why is that?".

Low viewing numbers coupled with haemorraging some $200M dollars annually signalled a lack of sustainability. Any business venture not backed by a nigh bottomless pit of funding such as PIF, would have folded long ago.

The players won't cry too much I don't think, they have made off quite well from this venture. The event staff and general employess will, sadly bear the brunt as is usual in these circumstances.

I tried to watch a couple of LIV events but couldn't really get in to them, the whole schtick just seemed forced and a little contrived. I jokingly said to the wife that Antifa couldn't even get that many paid actors in their protests...

The planned change to the format spoke to a need for alignement with "tradition" but possibly is too little too late. We can but wait and see what the announcement is. But I hope that PIF do right by the ordinary Joes that are losing their jobs.

I would be surprised if a deal with the PGA wasn’t made.
It would make sense for both.
