LIV Golf

I found it very weird that the PGA made an exemption that included Smith but not Hatton. Smith's game is in the bin at the moment, whereas Hatton is still ranked 21st in the official rankings (making him the highest-ranked LIV player in fact). Plus, you'd probably have more chance of coaxing Rahm + Hatton back as a pair than you do dividing them up. Missed a trick there.

Even in Data Golf, Hatton is 36th to Smith's 122nd.

Luring Smith away would have massively destabilised The Rippers, and LIV’s biggest market to date.

It was, yeah, they said something about major winners across the last x number of years didn't they? But they didn't have to say that at all, they could've made the criteria anything they wanted. Maybe add in anyone who's maintained a top 50 world ranking for example. I'd have thought Hatton was a very desirable asset to try and win back.
I doubt the PGAT are that bothered about having either Hatton or Cam Smith in their ranks, their main aims were clearly BDC and Rahm, the criteria just happened to include Smith. I wou though agree that Hatton would have been a bigger attraction, just not big enough.

Sure, but as I mentioned, including Hatton might have been a factor in getting Rahm as well? Maybe they're not as close in real life as they appear, but I'd imagine they are. If Hatton went first, for example, it feels like one less reason for Rahm to stay.

Do you think Rahm would be willing to write off tens of millions of dollars to go back to the PGAT 'B' league?

I'm so glad to see some of these guys are leaving or at least thinking about leaving LIV. Frankly, Rahm and Hatton are the only two I want to come back. I know a lot of people like DeChambeau but I could not care less about him.

I don’t really follow the politics of golf broadcasting or Tours, but surely Keith Pelley failed….in that the DPWorld / Euro Tour is far more relevant, and could be even more so, since the advent of LIV….rather than existing as a simp or lapdog for Jay and the PGA Tour, which it did when he was in charge of the DPWorld Tour

The tour was falling badly when Keith Pelley came in , players jumping ship , corporation sponsors dropping and events being cancelled

When he took over he managed to turn it around and gain Co sanctions with other tours

And it was him who first brought PIF money in to the DP with events in Saudi

Created the Rolex Series

Increased the revenue to make it more stable

Of course they are going to look to deal with the PGAT which is still the biggest tour in the sport

More fingers could be pointed at all those European players who left the ET to chase the money in the US

Am layering speculation on top of speculation, but the last 2 years in reality finishing near the top of DPWT standings meant players leaving for PGAT or LIV.
Part of that will be whether the players fancy moving to US or not. By easing the challenges it may be more players show up at more DPWT events.

I'm sure Pelley did some good stuff (as per AW), it's down to individuals to judge the net overall of the good verses not so good. Is easy to remember the more recent stuff of course, and it certainly felt (to me) like things improved once he moved on.

The DP World Tour will benefit significantly IMO from LIV players being free to compete in its events.
It will strengthen fields and, just as importantly, resolve the awkward Ryder Cup eligibility issues for players like Rahm and Hatton.

Ideally, I would love to see it work both ways.
Allowing a four-man DP World Tour team to play in each LIV event would give some of those players access to $30m purse small field events.

Of course, the obvious downside is that participation would trigger PGA Tour bans 🤷‍♀️ a major concern for players chasing top-10 finishes and PGA Tour status.

Again IMHO the DP World Tour losing its top 10 players year after year was a terrible decision in the first place.
It weakens the tour yearly and reduces sponsor appeal.
Bringing LIV players back into DPWT events will help offset that by strengthening fields, visibility and that’s exactly what sponsors care about.

Unless there is going to be some coordinated announcement (unlikely), then it looks like bad news for LIV HQ re OWGR points, as this week's events are on the owgr site.

I'd maybe expect "you've made a load of changes, let's give it a year to see how they pan out" type of message in coming days.

Do you mean the events not on the OWGR site

For clarity, can players from the DP World Tour (DPWT) who finish in the top ten and earn a PGA Tour card also compete in both DPWT/PGAT?

Is there dual membership? If so, when are the players responsible for fulfilling their commitments to hold up the DPWT?
