LIV Golf

It will always be a question until the league doesn’t need to rely on the money from PIF , until the league is bringing in the billions to make it sustainable it’s always going to be at the grace of PIF

For me it’s made the PGAT worse because it’s missing a number of the worlds best players - only people benefiting are those getting more money

We now have to wait for the majors to see them together where as before they were playing in bigger events more

Want to see all the sports best players playing together more than just 4 times a year

The sport is fractured right now at the tour level

I take it not many bothered to listen or read what Rory said during the interview.. Just picked up on the bit about PIF and money.
He also said that he would welcome back the players to the pga if it was ever to happen. Although, others withing the pga aren't in his position so they may not want to. Also said that the majors and ryder cup have been elevated as its the only time the best players get to play against each other.
Sounds like quite a balanced pov to me.

Don’t be silly now - it’s easy to just look at the headlines and make a judgement from there

Thought the whole segment with the Overlap was great ,

He in the past has said a lot of reactionary stuff but this was very balanced

It’s looking more and more that he will be playing more outside the US in the coming season

Rory accepted that Liv is a part of the golf eco system a while ago now.

He did acknowledge in the interview Liv has done some good things although he didn't elaborate.

He is right in the fact that the biggest threat to Livs future is the PIF deciding to stop funding it as well as them losing their marquee players.

Brysons decision in the next 6 months is huge for Livs future.

Unfortunately the way of most media now is to look for click bait stuff - balanced doesn't cut it

Lets face it though, whatever Rory is saying today he'll be saying the opposite in a few days time. I tend to treat his viewpoints with a pinch of salt, because he has a tendency to say what the audience present want to hear, rather than perhaps what he actually believes.

Fractured Sport
For context Padraig Harrington has said professional golf in the 1980s and 90s was fractured which was actually a net positive for the sport in his opinion.
During that era, top European players remained loyal to the European Tour, rarely crossing the Atlantic for regular PGA Tour events.

According to Harrington, this separation created a genuine sense of tribalism and 'spice.' Because the players weren't interacting weekly, their limited meetings created a natural friction that became the foundation of the modern Ryder Cup rivalry turning it into the event we know today.

In short Harrington has said multiple times a fractured sport is not 100% a bad thing, it creates a mindset for the rival tours to continually improve their product and not be complacent.

Agree with this but the bans being imposed on any golfers participating in the LIV qualifying event this coming week are beyond petulant..

Nothing wrong with healthy rivalry, but these measures are ridiculously short sighted.

Is somewhat ironic when some of the 'anti liv bots' regularly bemoan "players can't qualify", even though this is the 3rd one - but still seem supportive of the PGAT enterprises position on suspensions for trying to qualify. 🤷‍♂️

I can kinda follow disciplining actual current PGAT players, but why those on the other tours?

"...who is a member of the PGA Tour, Korn Ferry Tour, PGA Tour Champions or PGA Tour Americas."

Also,
"Additionally, any non-PGA Tour member who plays in the LIV Golf Promotions event, because of its status as an unauthorized event, would be subject to a one-year ban from playing in PGA Tour-sanctioned events. That includes playing in Monday qualifiers and receiving sponsor’s exemptions."

All feels a bit "anti competition".

NB, quotes are from GolfDigest.
Cleveland52 - you can blame them for "one-year ban" text 😆

Not sure what it achieves by banning members of others tours when they won’t play in the PGA events anyway 🤷‍♂️

It doesn’t stop players from playing in co sanctioned events - the Scottish Open for exmaple

Solid signings, HV3 moving to Smash makes sense - they'll still be a solid team even in the absence of Koepka.

Smylie replacing Jones on Ripper will definitely help pull in some younger Australian fans - the kids young but we've already seen young players thrive in the LIV environement so it might well be a great career move for him.

This is all a little bit pathetic from the PGAT isn't it?

Thought Perez did a good job doing on course analysis, but understand why he'd want to return to the Champions tour. Hopefully when he does get back in, he can pick up some sold results.

That’s just pathetic imo not allowing someone to play because they effectively did punditry and just makes PGAT look sad and bitter.

Did he play in LIV at some stage as well ?

Nothing really surprises when it comes to the way tours act

It’s just a sad consequence of the split
