LIV Golf

Surely that has been the case or player contracts would have been cancelled once they became LIV players. I don't think it is that big a deal and not sure what PIng are getting out of it they aren't already getting
I think you might be missing the point here, Homer, me old mucker.
Not long ago, brands wouldn’t go near LIV Golf with a barge pole. Now, you’ve got names like Callaway, PING, and Reebok publicly aligning themselves with LIV Golf teams.
It’s a step in the right direction if these teams are ever going to grow into something serious in the future.

It goes back to the removal imo of the toxicity that came with Greg Norman

A few years back I suggested that LIV needed to look at someone like Mark King to run the tour - to make it more about the golf as opposed to a grudge and a battle

The new guy that’s come in doesn’t have any grudges and can concentrate on removing a lot of the toxicity and just trying to stop the battle and be a stand alone tour - a lot less negativity these days

Certainly not you old mucker. How will teams grow into omething if they are part of the LIV set up. It isn't like they can make a leap anywhere else and are you suggesting the teams aren't something serious already

Rewind this thread back a couple of years, people bleating on...LIV are such a toxic brand, no decent company will ever go near them etc etc.
Two big golf manufacturers are now signed up and it's changed to...why is this news, its not a big deal blah blah.
It's absolutely hilarious 🤣
And it was Saudi money that was toxic, sportswashing, trying to buy the game, etc.; now it was only ever Greg Norman.

Equipment manufacturers who provide equipment to players continue providing equipment to players. That’s a the big news 🤣

Where are the billion dollar franchise deals and investments we were promised?

Comparisons to F1 are always a lot irrelevant

It’s a different sport all together and even of then most will only see the world champion as opposed to constructer

But they are billion pound teams

Difference between news and watching it. As it happens my point remains valid and I can't name too many drivers and their teams. Seems a petty and off topic way of point scoring
It’s classic shifting the focus away from Liv to something else.

Liv was all about team franchises and big companies investing in them. In reality, no one other than a few Liv die hards like Mel cares. The global market and viewing audience it tiny.

F1 is a true global sport worth tens of billions of dollars. All 10 teams are individually valued at over one billion.
Yes it’s been up and running longer and one day Liv may be the same. But for now that is very hard to imagine.

I’m not trying to point score, I don’t need to.

You won’t watch any LIV golf this weekend because apparently you have no interest in it, but Torque will be carrying much stronger PING branding, and the brand will be referenced a LOT more in the commentary - this is part of what makes F1 so attractive - it’s constant brand placement for successful teams.

We’ll start to see that transferred to golf whereby brands become a much bigger part of the product.

You’ll see, if you drop the pretence of LIV hostility and give yourself time to become accustomed to it.

Are Ping/Callaway the headline sponsors of those teams?

Whilst watching F1 I don’t think I’ve heard the sponsors of the team mentioned, unless they form part of their name.

How is the sponsership working ?

Is it any different to a staff bag ?

I can see a similarity between F1 and the pro golf

Ferrari are paid £50 million a year just to turn up; and through PIP the the PGA Tour found a way to siphon multiple millions to the players it finds the most ‘helpful’ to bribe to play its tour…Sure LIV did the same, to an even greater degree.. but was explicit about it

The issue with comparing with things like F1 and even the IpL and other franchise sports is those sports don’t have a competitor within that market - so when there is a F1 race etc all the eyes are on y them - hence getting 80mil average viewers per event so they will be raking it in - LIV is going up against other tours in a packed market and it’s struggling to get eyes on it - it’s going to be very tough to break that monopoly almost impossible
