Chosen simply because the top 8 get (or did get - I haven't checked whether it's still the case) a 2-year exemption on LIV. No other reason. NB the top 1 is far too small a sample size to draw any conclusions.Well it is very flexible - I’m guessing “top 8” was used because it allowed BDC to be included last year.
Also, I believe I've previously said (more than once) that granting those top 8 major exemptions would be reasonable.
Why are you still taking that quote out of context? His point was that the majors do now/did then (just about) still have the best players but unless something changes/changed (which it's starting to with a very small number of special invitations and specific exemptions) they may not in future, particularly when exemptions start running out and players elect not to chase the relatively small number of owgr ranking points available outside the pgat.Which then goes back to Goochs statement of “the best players not playing in majors” etc - when it’s very clear the very best do play in the majors
