I suppose the purpose of qualification isn't to get the Top x number of players in the world (x being the field size), as slots will be open to amateurs, PGA club pros, past champions, etc (criteria depending on the Major we are discussing of course)
So, I wouldn't be against the Top y players from LIV qualifying for Majors (would it be the same for each Major?). That qualification process can be reviewed over time depending on how much value they bring to the Majors

See. I knew we could argue about anything. My work here is done lolOh no it wasnāt!

The Heritage is a Historic Event on a proper signature golf course. So as nobody is talking about this weeks PGAT event, by default, is that a sideshow?
Similar could be said about PGA Tour players, so it's not really an argument that stands up to much scrutiny.Iām talking specifically about the argument that play on Liv should lead directly to qualification in majors. Some arguing as high as Top 12 or all event winners
Current evidence shows that performance on Liv does not translate to equivalent major performance.
The same scrutiny should also apply to some of the lower ārankedā PGAT events where winners get auto invites to Masters. Iām not sure theyāre rooting up trees after a good few days in an opposite event field/autumn swing
Sample size remains small, and variance in golf is high, so it just shows the majors are doing the right thing by taking time and easing into it.
Keeping it golf and discussion related, I can't help but wonder if there could be someone here who would try and argue that Henry Cotton wasn't world class because he never won a PGA Tour event and didn't record a top-10 finish in a US "major" (especially if he had been a LIV golfer).I've just gone onto a random topic generator. The topic that was given was:
Cotton

WhooshHe won three opens did he not ?

However, it's certainly easier to justify having winners of LIV events than it is winners of weak field PGA Tour events, for which major exemptions are being questioned by the media - Fred Ridley avoided directly answering the question when asked prior to the Masters. However, it's not just one-time winners of those lesser PGA Tour events who have made little impact in majors - it's simply a different kind of golf to the soft resort course buffets they face most weeks.
Offering exemptions to the top players on the LIV standings doesn't really change the Masters field much - just one of last season's top-8 weren't in the field this year (Oosthuizen).
And nor would tournament winner exemptions - only 4 tournament winners between Masters weren't there (Steele, Ortiz, Meronk, Leishman).
In the past 2 seasons, the top 8 in the end of season standings on LIV have recorded 2 major wins and 11 other top-10s (plus two top-10s in the Olympics) during those seasons.Again, the very best performers on Liv havenāt translated that into major form. That is a problem for Liv. It will undoubtedly change at some point.
Oh dont use actual facts on this threadIn the past 2 seasons, the top 8 in the end of season standings on LIV have recorded 2 major wins and 11 other top-10s (plus two top-10s in the Olympics) during those seasons.

Well, they are golffacts (shades of Mrs P Read!), but what exactly are they meant to demonstrate?Oh dont use actual facts on this thread![]()
