LIV Golf

LIV is a better product.

Do you still watch golf on a cathode ray box, or do you have a nice flat screen?
That's a stupid analogy. If I want to watch golf it doesn't matter, I'll watch on whatever is available. I wouldn't refuse to watch on a CRT anymore just because I've got a flat screen, it's still the same product I'm watching.

LIV is great if you want to watch rich has-beens getting richer.

The TV numbers are out, and Fox drew more viewers for LIV on Friday than the PGAT drew on the Golf Channel.

Then there’s the global streaming audience to add in

Prob better to get full context

The bottom line is less people are watching golf

Viewing numbers are dropping for PGAT but those numbers aren’t being picked up by LIV

It’s not a good look for any tour

Its widely accepted that with the financial backing of a trillion-dollar war chest, LIV Golf has the ability to operate for as long as the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia is willing to support it. This kind of funding gives LIV a unique position in professional sports—where immediate profitability isn’t the top priority, and long-term strategic goals can take center stage.

LIV’s strategy isn’t about competing head-to-head with the PGA Tour for its current fan base, whose average viewer age is around 63. That demographic, while loyal and valuable in the short term, represents a declining audience over time. LIV understands this. Rather than trying to convert these older fans, they’re playing a longer game.

Their goal is to capture the attention of younger audiences—millennials, Gen Z, and even Gen Alpha—who consume sports content differently, prefer shorter formats, and are more engaged with digital platforms and social media. LIV is building a product designed to appeal to that future audience, even if it means slower growth in the present.

In 10 to 15 years, as the PGA Tour's core audience naturally ages out, LIV aims to be the dominant brand among the next generation of golf fans. They’re not just trying to compete with tradition—they’re trying to redefine what the future of golf looks like.

That’s why, at this stage, raw viewership numbers aren’t the most important KPI for LIV. The critical metric is demographic data—specifically, how young their viewers are and whether that younger base is growing steadily. If LIV continues to trend younger, they’re doing exactly what they set out to do: building a platform that will thrive in the long term, even if the traditionalists don't buy in right away.

This is a great watch if you're a LIV fan..

If you're not, and you want to watch it so you can complain about the quality of the editing, or have a mardy dig at Poulter etc, crack on..

“Buddy” ?

What was the joke ?

Maybe the penny will drop when it comes to golf markets and that for a tour to be stood up needs the biggest market to be in their side - the US

So the US based PGAT fans are going to accept and embrace LIV - yep - it's heading that way, along with building a global fanbase - pretty much the plan all along.

Are they ? Is it ?

What’s the definition of a global fanbase - what numbers are you talking here

So far 45% of their revenue comes from Australia and that’s only £18mil

It’s not a global fanbase that’s going to help pay the bills

I honestly don't know why you won't or can't hold your hands up and say you called it wrong on LIV Phil.

Here you are, still trying to explain why it's failing, when it's not failing - 3 year extension in Mexico today - building a course in Australia to host future secured LIV events. You're wrong, and have been all along, and until you admit that you were wrong, you'll carry on making yourself look silly.

It is failing ?

It’s losing £300plus mil a year

It’s a tour held Up solely by Saudi Money - take that away and the whole thing folds

All these extensions is just more money being spent and very little coming in

It’s not going to get to any level where it’s going to be able to survive without the Saudi money

It doesn’t attract consistent significant crowds or eyes on a telly
