LIV Golf

In my opinion, the young ones into golf aren’t sitting watching the PGA tour, LIV tour or the European tour, they are watching YouTube videos with all sorts of different content, I’ve personally watched more golf YouTube videos than actual golf in the last year, their shorter, you can leave and go back to it when you want, it’s a massive part of the future of the sport.

I cant speak for all junior golfers but Jamie definitely focusses in on YouTube golfers more than any competitive pro golf. However, he does watch some LIV stuff and is already looking forwards to the season kicking off under the floodlights in 2 weeks - I know the night golf concept will help draw him into the event, just as it will with other young golfers.
While kids will tend to watch Horvat, Luke Kwon, Good Good etc, LIV is much easier for them to cross over into than the PGAT and the DPWT.

Jamie is far from a typical case from which to draw conclusions on golf spectators though.

Rick and LIV confirmed then. Really smart move by LIV. More eyes on him than their tour.

Pay day for Rick. Set for life.

I'm sure there will be some great stuff from him as he's always been entertaining in his own way.

If its best for the viewer will remain to be seen.

Good on the guy, one of the first vloggers out there. Worked hard and now will be set for life

Fair play

This is all a mystery to me, as I don't watch golf on YouTube. Perhaps it is the way forward for the youth of today, and in 10 years time YouTube, or its successor, will be the primary means of involvement in golf at all levels. By this time the 'Majors', as perceived today, could have been supplanted by a new method of determining the best golfer, one which might not even involve playing the game on grass.

This time last year all the fanfare was about bringing in players like Rahm , Hatton and Meronk -

Now it’s all about someone who won’t even be playing in the League - no doubt he will do content etc but why all the fanfare and announcements etc

Is it because there is a lack of any significant signings this season

Have a day off!😂

I thought what you said was fair enough!😁

I played with a low handicap 16 year old last week and his "consumption" of golf was quite different to mine. 😉

And here’s the thing. Imagine if YouTube, Tiktok, Instagram, X, LIV, and TGL didn’t exist, as it didn’t when we were young and finding the game.
Of course, golf was readily accessible for the big events on the BBC, but the growth of Sky has taken the game away from huge numbers of potential viewers and participants.
We’re now seeing the game going back into a domain of open source viewing - and that HAS to be good for golf - even if the elite events are paywall protected - there are endless opportunities for people to watch pro golfers either competing, or having fun, for free, and most importantly - the game can be presented in a manner that suits a multitude of demographics 👍

There is no rush for signings now, they have their top players and a deal is going to happen sooner rather than later which will bring both tours together, that will inevitably give both tours some access to the other tours players.

Really ? It’s going to be that sort of deal where players can miss LIV events to play on other tours and vice versa ?

There has been some talk on no laying up of a PGA Tour season running in the USA from Feb till the Open and then Liv runs after that going more worldwide

But who knows?

They have said that both tours will continue to run but the best players in the world will all play against each other more often so there has to be a compromise somewhere

Some of the comments are quite cutting, but funny for the grain of truth behind them :
- Shiels is now state sponsored media
- Perfect synergy : faded youtuber signs to the faded golfers tour
His channel has been funded by a company backed by Saudi money for years, it's the main reason his channel went stratospheric so quickly

They have lots of players on contracts right now who must play every event

Once PIF get involved in the PGAT then it’s hard to see what use LIV will be.

The main obstacle was Greg Norman they have removed him

I suspect we will see the PGAT being heavily funded by PIF will them also funding the events in the Middle East on the DPT

If he’s happy to cozy up to the Trumps, selling out to the LiV isn’t a surprise. But it’s some U-turn from his views when LiV started. And as we know, changing your opinion isn’t allowed.

Suddenly signing YouTubers is a good thing! And one that struggles to break 75 should fit right in.

I wonder what Guy will do given he has been the brains of Ricks operations. Rick isn’t the sharpest tool in the YouTube shed.

Greg was an obstruction to any deal.

I may be wrong but there is nothing to suggest that Liv is going anywhere soon.

The guy who replaced Greg is better qualified than Greg and Jay put together to push a tour forward.

No laying up also said recently that Callaway are looking to add their own team with callaway staff players.
