Limit on handicap for major club competitions.

All our major club finals are limited to 20. This includes any subsidiary competition that's also for prizes. I feel this gives beginners a real incentive to get lower rather than just coasting along off 20 odd. Also it is more difficult to manage handicaps the higher they are and higher players are likely to improve quickly sometimes by a large margin from week to week. All our midweek and winter comps are not restricted but to get on the board you have to be 20 or under or play to that level.

I see no problem with handicap limits, they protect the integrity of prestigious competitions and aren't just about high handicappers. There are plenty of opens that are for Category 1 as well as scratch comps. It's exactly the same thing. If you want to play in them you have to get lower.

As for OP, it's rediculous to say the handicap limit only applies to first place.

Taking it to the extreme; how is it the same that a 4 handicapper looses 1 shot and a 28 handicapper looses 10. Why not just say you can contribute to the prize coffers, but you can’t win any, you bunch of bandit hackers.

Why don’t all you single figure grumps have your own little competitions that the 6 or 7 of you can play each other in, and leave the rest of us normal double figure blokes to get on with it

Assuming your talking about a 3/4 hcp comp I think you'll find that the 28 hcp loses 7 shots not 10.

In our sunday morning roll ups we usually play 3/4 hcp and you can bet theres a different winner every week! Yesterday for example is was a 17 hcp!

Now quit the hcp envy and just crack on with your own game fella!

You don't need to assume, just read what I wrote; 3/4 handicap but to a maximum of 18, my sums are right, 10 shots.

Not sure about envy from high handicappers though, but do know there is a lot resentment toward high handicappers in competitions.

Why have a max handicap - to stop bandits???

BTW our presidents day was won by a 15handicapper who had 52 points - so why stop higher handicaps having a go ???????
