Chap on the 8th at Blue Mountain today, just behind me as i was on 16th tee. Watched him look around (didn't see me) and kick his ball a good foot in distance to give himself a swing at the ball that originally was a 'no shot' stuck under a bush.

His playing partner then turned up in a buggy to give him his club, ignorant of what was done.

It's no skin off my nose but it cheeses me off when I see fellow golfers blatantly cheating.

just shout out "good shot " & give him a wink when he looks up

you have to take into account the possibility that he's not playing a competitve round - but I accept that the furtive look suggests otherwise!

I got picked up on preferring my lie on the 18th by one of the other team (I nudged it with the club from the fairway into/onto the semi rough). Yes I said, you can't do that he said, why not I said, it's against the rules he said - the match finished 3 holes ago I said; just avoiding another divot to be filled at some point......

To be honest if its just a bounce game with a couple of mates for nothing its no big deal, why risk snapping your club or something when there's nothing at stake. If it was a competition then that's a whole different ball game. Anyone who has this he's only cheating himself attitude needs to take a look at themselves because he's not!!! He's cheating the other 300 golfers who paid their £5 or whatever to play in the medal!!!

I know of a guy in a society I play in on a hole running beside the one I was playing. I saw him "identify" his ball and basically set it up in the rough. He had just hit is 20 yards, hadn't lost line of sight with it and there were no other balls anywhere near him. Didn't challenge him because frankly it isn't worth the hassle with the arguments that would ensue. He proceeded to duff it another 20 yards.

There is a little suspicion about him though as he has been known have a little trouble counting at times. Wouldn't be at all surprised if I heard he'd been seen using the Footjoy size 9 wedge.

At the end of the day they are only cheating themselves most of the time, leaves a nasty taste but I like BP response!

No they're not, they are cheating every single person who pays money into sweeps etc, say he won the money or the comp by a shot, would leave a serious sour taste.

We have a couple of members who are known for having a couple of extra "clubs" out on the course with them.

One was stumbling around in the rough looking for his ball and I went over to help. I found it but decided not to disclose it's location to see what he did. I asked him what ball he was playing and he told me Srixon 3 softfeel, which I was stood over. He "found" his ball almost out of the rough with a great line to the green which he duly hit. I made sure I got to the green first and looked at his ball to see it was a Titleist! He DQed himself but only because he had been caught red handed.

One of those where we'd really need to know the context etc

Reads like a cheat but could just as easily been a social knock or stableford with a full confession in the buggy (listen, I was three off the tee with no shot so I just kicked it out to play out the hole but its a blob for me on that one....)

...on the other hand he was probably just cheating!

If he didn't want to risk hurting himself or damaging a club, take a penalty or chip out, social golf or not. Better than NR'ing the hole.

I know someone like this, prides themselves on being competitive but everybody knows he is lenient with the rules. Does playing social golf with 'friends' when money involved.

No way to address it, has been caught red handed and continues to do it, sarcasm deosn't work.

Refuse to play with any more, if you cannot trust people to honour the rules or spirit what's the point?

You caught him doing this on the 15th. Who knows how many times he had done this in the 14 previous holes. It might have been a medal, it might have been a bounce game, he might have been playing his partner for money. Out the cheating barsteward

your sins will find you out and the resulting embarassment of any cheater that is caught is likely to stop them cheating thereafter.
Obviously it is a problem in the first place and really shouldn't happen but it does, we all know it does.
