Ladies British Open.

I enjoyed what I saw of it. I though that the way they played was probably more relevant to me as-well. I also thought that there were quite a few 'quirky' looking swings e.g. Inbee Park BUT that they still hit the ball so well! The deserve more coverage really.

I have recorded it to watch later. St Andrews looks stunning, but so green. Our fairways are parched and about 10 on the stimp.;)

I think its a shame the BBC decided not to show more coverage, especially as there was none on Saturday. They could have easily put it on the red button so it didn't disturb their other programs. I how they lose the rights to these events so someone else can do it better and let it have the coverage it deserves.

Some times i prefer to watch the womens as generally they have many people within a couple shots of the lead and it could change at any minuet. I think if they showed more of it then a lot more people would tune in. The reason they don't get the viewers the mens game gets is cos there's so few events on TV so people cant get to know the players as well and know how each plays.

Painfully slow play.

What's with the caddy pacing shots out to the pin? From 150 yards? Wouldn't it speed things up if they let them use a laser? You just don't get this in the men's game.

Some very average short games on display. Some weren't even average.

Not a massive fan of ladies golf, although some did have good looking swings.

Good to see some classy golf and skill levels more suitable to the way the sport should really be played.
Birdie Birdie finish to win is a good finish to the event.
Now about the Scottish weather.......for the naysayers south of the border and the BBC Weather forecasters....it does not rain all the time does it.

Sounds like the caddies aren't as good then? Was that a regular occurrence? I've seen it in the mens game and I'm pretty sure joe would pace it out if tiger wanted a yardage and he couldn't otherwise provide it. Fortunately slow play isn't an issue in the men's game.....

Seriously, I saw a mix of fast and slow players out there, exactly like in men's golf.

I also saw some amazing short game shots from a variety of players and nothing particularly "average" other than a few having issues playing off the road or path at 17, which would trouble any player. Don't know what triggered that comment but anyone can hit a bad shot without having a bad short game!

I was watching only yesterday's play, and yes, there were a few good shots around the green, but quite often they were awful. Someone was putting from about 10 foot off the green, and stuck it 30 foot past the hole. Even the commentators picked it up. She wasn't the only one either. Just not impressed. It's like watching a bunch of club players. I can do that anytime.

Good reply Dodger, there are some serious dinosaurs or 30 year old 'lads' still living with their parents posting.
Talk about shallow.

When you've got good looking women like Creamer & Gulbis wearing what they do its pretty obvious men are going to comment on it.

This post would imply you haven't played much links golf (particularly St Andrews) in a 'healthy' breeze!

That said, distances are indeed pretty similar to Club players - 250-ish with a couple of 300 yarders. Which is one of the reasons it's actually good to watch imo.

Had the pleasure of going round Wentworth West with one from 'the next level down' last year. Struggled for length off the (Yellow) tee but still managed to play the 9th in 3 shots! Some very impressive hybrid and short game play elsewhere too!

You are kidding yourself and being quite insulting to a group of women who play at a level you can only dream of.

i posted on twitter yesterday along the lines of most amateur male golfers could learn a hell of a lot by watching and to get over the fact they will never ever hit a ball like tiger woods does.

There was some very good golf played, i enjoyed watching it!

Have to say thats pretty insulting to a bunch of female golfers that club player can only ever dream of being as good as. I've been lucky enough just the once to play with a lady golfer who plays off + figures and going to a scholarship in the states. She was a slender young thing and played off the whites with us macho bunch, she outdrove us on every hole and chipped and putted like a monster she wiped the floor with all of us.

For the record her driving average was 260yards and as I say was always the longest of the tee so it also proved that us men really cannot measure distance!

I wouldn't quite go that far FD. It depends what MtM is referring to - and whether (as a Dinosaur!) he has a warped view (I think he does) of what constitutes great golf - especially in those conditions!

There were certainly more 'amateur' shots to be seen than in the Men's game, but there was some wonderful Golf on display too!

The number of up-and-downs on the Road Hole, even from the bunker, was particularly impressive!

On a less positive note -

Michelle Wie really does have to sort her putting out. She's obviously trying to but, even with her current style, it's pretty awful!

Seeing Caddies lining up/checking line-up doesn't seem right. Not a fan of banning it but, if done in all/most shots, it just doesn't look right. Not so obvious here as elsewhere though.

BTW.......... I saw the longest hitting male golfer on the tour take 4 [or was it 5] putts at Muirfield.
Does that make him a club standard player.

What the women brought to the table was a degree of skillful shots that are rarely seen on the men's tour.
Stacey Lewis's shot at the 17th was classy.
As stated earlier some really skillful long wood/rescue shots. Drivers off most par 4/5 tees.
Rarely seen in the mens game now.

Maybe the PGA one, but not the European!

There was even a Scot ahead of him in 2011!

It was 5 putts btw - on a hole I've birdied with a pretty similar pin position (followed by an 8 on the next!)!
