The R&A has announced that The 155th Open will be played at St Andrews from 11-18 July 2027.

It’s not at the old course every year and it’s been at Sandwich 3 times in the last 23 years
Fair enough. Carnoustie is due another soon, then surely Lytham is the next one due in England otherwise it might as well be removed.

Not sure Porthcawl has the necessary infrastructure although they have been doing a lot of work to try and find solutions

I like Porthcawl but not sure how the routing would cope with the crowds. The 1st and 18th cross over each other at right angles which would be a logistical nightmare.

Agreed. I wonder if they could re-route the layout but I'd be more concerned trying to get everyone in and out and having enough footage for all the stuff outside the golf that is needed for an Open

I don't know the place at all but could they rejig the order of the holes? When they held the British Masters at Close House they altered the order quite radically to suit having a pro tournament there, with all that is required for that. Worked very well indeed.

There is more than enough space at Porthcawl but a couple of holes close together isnt an issue at TOC

issues they would need to sort out is tented village but more than doable

And given a report I read yesterday that suggests a possibility, those of us who absolutely don’t want to see it at Turnberry whilst in current family ownership.

Really? I thought it was one of the bugbears of the Old Course where tees and greens are so close together and so groups have to wait for tee shots/holing out. If holes are close at Porthcawl would it cause delays especially at the sart of the round?

They already have rerouted Porthcawl when they hosted the British Seniors a few times. The 18th becomes the 1st and the 17th becomes the 18th. I assume they will do the same for the Ladies Open this year.

It’s the same for the Ladies

They do the same sort of re routing for Hoylake

They want to host it in Wales and also in the Republic of Ireland to have to go around all the countries

If they want to host it in ROI, why not host it in France or the Netherlands if it's going to be in foreign countries now?
