St Andrews - Where to Visit

you'll be min 4 hours.
by the time you are wrapped up, taken photos that'll be 3pm. sunset is 6pm in mid-Oct and the light will start to go from 5ish
Alternatively, you'll be finished by 2pm and if it's a bright day, there will be plenty of light until 6pm, so you'll have enough time to do something other than walk around St Andrews!

Hello banana, how was your experience?

I looked into entering the ballot for 2026, but £700 for 2 rounds (old + another) is just too much when you realise effectively I’m paying £600 for TOC.

Sickening those costs, everywhere just up up and up with no sign of stopping

Alright Sunshine!:D

It was without doubt the best experiance (taking into account the whole trip) I've ever had. It was as much the spending time with my dad and it was the overall trip. I have previouslybeen very fortunate to have played in France, and had a 5 day trip of Scotland playing (Turnberry,Troon, Gleneagles, Carnoustie, Kingsbarns). Both of these were absolutely incredible...but the Old Course (certianly on this occasion as it was the first time) just had something a little extra special about it.

Certainly helped shooting 5 over gross on the Jubilee, and getting a 0.7 handipcap cut the day before playing the old course! (handipcap was 8.5 for reference and now 7.8).

Yes it is expensive, and yes you can play other great courses for less, but the history, the first tee nerves, the famous holes that everyone has seen on telly etc...the sun was shining and all the costs involved in it are forgotten about! I'd happily pay the same and do it all over again.

I agree it is expensive (gone up since entering the ballot in 2024!) but for me it was as much about the memories (which started when giving it as a gift for Christmas) as it was the anticipation of playing it to then finally playing it!

I must also add, the Jubilee was a superb course, and the overall conditon of both was spot on - in my opinion the greens were a little too fast for my liking but playing a few weeks after the Dunhill and then at the same time as a Collage event being played was probably the reason why they were running a little quicker as it did throw up plenty of 3 putts!

Has anyone been in Tigers new place yet?
Yes went in, it's a little bit unsure of exactly what it what's to be.

It has 4x Sims which offer various games, football, basket ball, baseball, golf etc. While there, one group mentioned that they had 3 bags of clubs in their SIM. 1 had old school clubs (circa 90s so smaller headed clubs etc) a bag of ladies clubs and then a bag of current clubs. But the current clubs were a mixed bag of 'found in a local charity shop' type clubs as opposed to getting some decent gear in, which you'd expect given the name on the front door.

A small cinema was still in operation but nothing was showing while there.

The Sims opened up onto a seating area where people could have a bite to eat and the main cinema screen was split 3 ways showing 3 different spots (football, basketball and tennis).

In my opinion, they should have waited 6 months, given the whole place a lick of paint and made it all neat and tidy, then March/April next year as high season golf was about to start then open it.

It also had a bar, interactive darts and Highly overpriced hats and clothing.

I'm sure it will do ok as golfers on a 2/3 night trip may give it a go one evening to mix it up.

Is that really the cost to play TOC now? There goes my 50th birthday plans out the window. Can’t justify paying that for 2 rounds of golf.

Grow the game, hey, r&a!
