Joining fees

Ours has been reduced to £100. It was up at £600 a year or so ago. There was a trial offer where you pay the £100 Joining fee up front and £10 a round for 3 months ( can't play in comps though) and then at the end of the 3 months the total you accrue is credited to your account when you transfer to a full membership. It has been popular!

Ps
£380 a year! Bargain.com!!!!!! Looks stunning

We used to have a joining fee but it got dropped a few years back. Just as well as I wouldn't have been able to afford to join

I'm a member at two courses on had a joining fee the other dropped it just before i joined.
I suppose its down to demand. Quite i few of the clubs up here had a joining fee until recently as far i i know there are only;
Royal Dornoch ( 2 years as a member at the Struie course)
Nairn (2 year waiting list and depends who recommends you)
Inverness ( still has a 7 year waiting list)

demand

We still have our £600 joining fee but it can be deferred over three years (although still due in full if you leave before then). As we have recruited 21 from a local club with more on the way plus about 50 last year through our open days we are in a healthy position number wise and can afford to charge it

...and it's one of the cheapest around, the two other courses I considered wanted £1600 & £1800 quid, the equivalent of a years subs.

One of the main reasons for me joining my place was that there was no joining fee.

I begrudge paying >£1,000 to join a golf club - it's money for nothing as far as I'm concerned. Do you get an inventory on what the money has gone on?? It could go right into the Secretary's back pocket for all you know.

On top of the yearly sub, the club will get more than enough money from me so no joining fee for me.

For the first time ever I am hearing rumours that we are considering dropping the joining fee. This is all rumour at the moment but the word at the moment is that we are 90 members down at the moment. Considering that we have a maximum membership of just over 500 then it is concerning that we are down nearly 20% if the rumours are true.

Will be interesting to see if we do drop it and if anyone else follows suit.

my 2 pence...None at ours (Glen GC) & wouldnt have joined if their was, great course, playable all year round & brand new clubhouse right on the beach. In east lothian & surrounded by plenty of top notch courses some who still charge at least £800 to join plus a fee just to fill out the form, some waaay more!
Times have & are changing for clubs who dont maximise business opportunities & cant see why they dont invest in other areas of the club & its activities to attract people from all walks of life to make a vibrant club instead of freezing people out with a big whack you never get back..i mean really, come on..you dont get your "investment" back, weekend green fee'rs are keeping the grass neat with one hand while they hack it out with the other.
My sub this year will be under £500 for probably 20-30 rounds but to joe bloggs & his 3 mates on a Sat this summer..£55 a pop & they'll pay 10% more for their pint & roll, joining fees are a rip, case closed.

Inverness has a 7 year waiting list!!!!!

WTF

Does no one in Sneckie want to travel?????? Thats an incredibly strong financial position to be in.

I just joined Wimbledon Common last month, there was a joining fee but it was only £50 so not too bothered about that. I got Jan free and paid for Feb and March and will then pay for a year from April 1st when the new season starts.

Cant complain about that, and at approx £800 for the year its pretty much the cheapest around too.

You would be surprised how little some of they guys up here are willing to travel. The looks I get from people when I tell them I'm a member at tain, you would think its the moon and not a 40 min drive. The attitude is why should I pay to play elsewhere when I'm a member at such and such. There's a group of guys my wife used to work with that are members all cat 1 players and the only game they ever play outside their home course is at a Texas scramble at fortrose. Inverness is a bit strange some of them are really stuck up, then you find out they are a postie or something like that. The List only get opened every 7 years so you could be waiting longer to get in. I've been on the list 3 years, and got fed up and joined Nairn. :D
