Jeans on a golf course

sports direct got trousers for 9.99 dunlop if that matters but they do me fine

I just picked up 2 pairs of these for 16 notes. They're quite good actually. They might not last as long as some of the more expensive ones, but at £8 a pair, who cares...Oh, and I make them look Gooooood as well...

I can see where people are coming from with the 'smart jeans' point but to me a they are not really jeans they are denim trousers. It may be a small distinction but is surely why people will get away with wearing them. The ones I saw today were blue, baggy, fancy white logo on both back pockets, and a good 2 inches of pants showing.

As for another point I was wearing a pair of black trousers £8 from Dunnes and a grey shirt £5 from Primark and looked as smart as anyone else out on the course.

One other point I would like to make is towards the poor behaviour of others justifying there own poor bahaviour because they deem it less severe. I hate to see or hear any racist or biggoted comments or actions but that does not mean I can tolerate the breaking of a perfectly sensible dress code any more.

So you have a big ass as well then. I have 6 pairs of them. Mostly Kahki, but a pair of black and grey as well. Getting more tomorrow as I'm working and can't be arsed ironing for Saturday. Would love to earn enough to do that with the big brands

Now I need to find some better trousers for the winter. The Dunlops are just a bit light for the colder weather. I have waterproof Dunlop Trousers but you need to wear them as normal trousers or they are far far to warm.

I prefer to call it "mansized"..I only bought them last week, but have worn them a few times already and they are very good. I have a few pairs of the Nike climafit trousers and I wear these when its raining. They aren't waterproof, but I don't like wearing waterproof trousers, so I just take a spare pair and change into them after the round..

Would you rock up to a Cricket match and walk out to bat in jeans?
Would you rock up for Sunday Footy wearing jeans?

No.
You'd wear the appropriate clothing - the uniform if you like.
Golf has a "uniform". Almost all clubs have a dress code. If they have a dress code, abide by it. If it says No jeans, then don't wear jeans.

Almost as importantly, if the club has a dress code then they should be man enough to enforce it. We have a dress code - I always see cargo pants, footy shirts etc etc but the club are just not interested in enforcing the code as they would lose the green fee.
I don't really care what others wear, it doesn't affect me but in this game that we play, there are rules.
Stick to the rules.

I think we are missing a point about respecting the club rules. Yes some jeans look smart, but you know you are off to play golf, and you have to wear some trousers, so respect the rules of the club and wear appropriate attire. You don't elect to obey some rules and not others.
And all this class war stuff is total nonsense.

i will wear shorts and my utd top to play a casual round at my home course,
You are kidding here , tell me you are , have a large selection of everton tops but would never consider wearing one on the course or in the clubhouse even ,, im no snob im constantly in t suit & footy or rubgy top wnen relaxing, i work in a garage & do bouncing part time , so dont put it down to snobbery , anybody else wear a fotty top on course or club house , im MY opinion thats worse than jeans man .. only my opinion tho ,

I would never want to wear jeans on the course.... they just wouldnt look right with my boro shirt, plus I find my tracky bottoms much more comfortable for playing golf in!

I was going to type something similar but couldn't think of a way to word it, but this is bang on :D

I'm old enough to remember the time when you had to change into a collar & tie and wear a jacket in the clubhouse at most clubs in the area.

Even cords were borderline in those days ;)

Fortunately nowadays we are a bit more enlightened, but I'd still draw the line at jeans on the course. And football tops are just not allowed either in the clubhouse or on the course.

i consider observing the dress code a mark of respect to other members. if everyone else can abide by simple to follow instructions, why should i consider myself so special that they don't apply to me?

when i see someone taking the proverbial with regards to dress code i consider that the person in question saying that he is so special that he doesn't need to abide by anyone else's rules.

sorry... you aren't...back home and change...

Well that just goes to show that you think you are so special that you know precisely what those people are thinking and why, which any review of the 50% of the people that disagree with you on this and simialr threads suggests you dont, and that to me might suggest that you might be taking the proverbial out of them.

There is nothing wrong with differnces of opinion, there is nothing wrong with different views and attitudes. I tend to think that pre-supposing that everyone ought to think the same as one' self is rather hubristic.

Which is why i tend to get riled by posts like this one, and the earlier one which suggested that , because i had a different opinion to one of the forummers i deserved everything i got !

This is a discussion for god's sake, wherehopefully we can listen to and appreciate that there might be different views than our own, and that might help us develop or change our opinions and understanding of each other.

I am totaly against jeans/footy shirts on the course
Just can not agree with it, regardless of the "dress code"

But i could not think of anything more uncomfortable than playlng in jeans :(

Before we go any further on the rights and wrongs of dress codes, and the history of the game, ask yourselves one question......

Who were you rooting for in the Caddyshack movie ?

Judge Smails or Al Czervik ? :D
