As above.

He played his 3rd from the beach and it ended up in the sea.

Taking a drop he would therefore be playing 5.

A Rules Official was contacted.

the next I saw was his ball on the fairway and he was playing 5!

Can somebody please explain why he was not playing 6. There is something on Facebook but I cannot download to here.

Thanks

As his 3rd shot never left the hazard he had the option of going back to where his ball last entered the hazard - ie on his 2nd shot. Tis was the 'same' drop as it would have been playing form in the hazard, hence his 5th shot.
Rule 17.2a(2) refers.
Thanks very much, appreciate your help and Rule number. There was some talk in the commentary of the ball crossing the line.
